I know this is a (unofficial) hard rock and metal forum, but damn, this guy is the bomb

The guy is totally brilliant, his time with david Bowie also produced some killer writing and playing

I had that 45 when I was a kid. Loved it.

Can't really listen to it now but it hold a special place.

Ha! Was just reading a Nile Rodgers interview in a UK guitarist magazine where he says no one on the planet, including Nile himself, can play the Le Freak riff properly as its actually 2 guitars on the recording.

Love his playing.....

Great stuff. When I auditioned for a funk band back in the 90's, I had never played a lick of funk music. I had about a week to woodshed and Nile was one of my primary "teachers". It worked...I got the gig.

I had the honor of working with Nile back in my playing days. Spent a week in the studio tracking stuff. What a monster! I was humbled and amazed. His vibe and rhythm are second to none. They way he inverts chords and adds voicings to make things funky is unmatched. Incredible experience.

I still can't play Le Freak right, even after watching him do it 3 feet away from me.

The other insanely cool thing.......there is a vintage Strat in every corner of his house. No exaggeration.

Google the BBC documentary "The Hitmaker". I did not realize that he produced and wrote for everyone from Duran Duran to Madonna. His musical knowledge is incredible and that picking hand is deadly accurate. Ranks up there with the best of them.

Just watched the whole thing
That's without mention of the huge Daft Punk hits he wrote in the last year

I'm in the middle of his autobiography and the man is incredible when it comes to music. He's a jazz guy through and through, but has terrific pop sensibilities. Chic, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Bowie, Madonna, Duran Duran, Blondie, and tons of others with whom he's written songs or produced. A true music machine. He had an issue with drugs and liquor but cleaned up. Now he has some other health issues he's working through. Hugely influential.

I love all the rock virtuoso guys that probably mostly everyone else on this forum loves but boy there is something about his playing that is so awesome. For example in one You Tube Vid, he explains the chords to the Chic song "Everybody Dance" and I thought I was listening to a theory class taught by Ted Greene; then shows how he turns it into a pop song so the masses can enjoy. He arranged Bowie's "Let's Dance" was on a napkin and it was originally a folk tune written by Bowie...Amazing.
