I decided to try some Gold Lion KT77s in my Einstein Combo this week. I was going to go with the JJs, but I'd heard that the Gold Lions were more reliable. I put them in, biased them up, and after about a minute of playing, it's clear I've got a bad tube. Alright, it happens. Not a huge deal (although I am kind of thinking WTF, these things cost me twice as much as the JJs would have). But whatever, I go down to make my return. The retailer determined which was the bad tube and gave me a matched replacement.
I come home, put in the tubes again, play for about 5 minutes, then I start getting this rattle noise around each note. I hand the guitar to my buddy, grab an oven mit while he plays and quickly determine the problem is yet another power tube.
Either the Einstein doesn't like the KT77s, or I just have some bad luck.
As a side note, the JJ E34Ls, which I'm kind of starting to like, have not been a problem (for now at least).
