Hey all,

I'm trying to troubleshoot this hum I'm getting out of one guitar - I have a EVH Wolfgang Custom - that has a terrible hum on both my amps... (both EVH amps) - It doesn't appear to be a ground issue, as the hum is still there if I touch any of the metal parts.... I don't have the issue with other guitars... only this one... the hum itself, while isn't quite as loud as the guitar itself, is pretty close, and is def. noticeable while playing... Any thoughts on what it could be? Everything to my eyes looks normal as far as solder points go, though I don't know all that stuff well enough.... I get the hum (same tone) on both pickups, but the having my selector set in the middle, I still get a hum, but it's a different pitch... Tried different cables, and it still persists, this has just started since I moved into this new place - and I would think it's maybe the wiring, but I don't get the hum on any other guitars... It goes away when volume is turned down.. I don't know what else to test... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Has the guitar had the hum as long as you've had it or did it develop over time? I've had similar issues with two different guitars. In one case, it was a bad input jack. In the other it had a couple of bad solder joints from when I wired it up. I replaced the tip on my iron and re-soldered every single connection. Problem solved.

I would go through the guitar and make sure everything is connected and trouble shoot each individual part...

first thing i'd check. just didnt' feel like typing it all out!

Yup, there a lot of this going around lately, must be something in the air, heh. Dudes above my post have it nailed for ya though, best of luck!

Well, I took it to a local tech today... Sure enough, it didn't make any noise on any of the amps there... So I'm thinking its something with my condo, I just can't figure out why it does it with only that guitar.. No fluorescent lights, and all other guitars sound normal.. It's just that guitar on both my amps.

So.... here's more issues... I just picked up a standard EVH wolfgang - it buzzes on that too.. I can't figure out what the deal is.. I have 3 guitars, EVH Wolfgang Custom, EVH Wolfgang Standard, and a BC Rich Mockingbird Exotic... The Mockingbird is quiet on both amps (5150 III 100 and 50w), both Wolfgangs buzz like crazy.... I've bought a power conditioner, I've bought a humx eliminator - neither help at all... I can't figure out why it buzzes on those 2 guitars, and not the other, and doesn't buzz at all on amps at other locations, or even my amp at other locations.. i know the pickups are pretty hot... the pickups in my Mockingbird (rockfield mafia's) are rated at 10.9k, the wolfgang pickups i'm not 100% but the buzz is so loud it's unplayable... anybody have any ideas?

you've got something goin on electrically in your condo.

im almost sure, you've got a dimmer wired in somewhere, maybe not even in your combo, but it's on the line you're plugging into .

dimmers and outside motion lights create havoc for me in this house.

Bought a power conditioner and a humx eliminator...and it didn't help at all... But an ISP decimator did the trick! I can finally play my 5150iii 50w, bought it since I've moved here and never got to play it without that crazy buzz...
