New Old School Hardware Day...
Curt (Chubtone) hooked it up. My old '86 Charvel model 2 has been in need of a second bridge transplant for a while now. The 1984 Floyd just seemed like a perfect choice. A retro brass volume knob should go well.

Now I just need to decide to replace the neck altogether or do a refret and modify it for the Floyd nut. This neck has some miles on it, and after a lot of play time... this is the neck shape that feels most natural for me.

Neck replacement is a good alternative. You can always hold on to the original one. What replacement necks are you looking at.

Warmoth or Mighty Mite look like options. I want something that pretty closely duplicates the construction and the back contour of this neck. It's on the thinner side for a Charvel neck, so I think the warmoth wizard would be similar.

Be sure and measure the butt width. I'm not sure about the Model series Charvels, but most USA Charvels have a 2 & 1/4" butt width and I don't think Warmoth or Mighty Mite make anything other than the standard 2 & 3/16" butt width necks. I know Musikraft makes the 2 & 1/4" butt and you can also pick up a Charvel Pro Mod neck on ebay that should feel really similar to yours. A re-fret will probably be as much as a Musikraft neck or a used Pro Mod neck, but if that is THE neck you are most comfortable on and you have gotten that much playing time and enjoyment from that guitar, it might deserve a good re-fret from all those years of good service to you.

This guitar should look really cool when you are done.

If you have a solid luthier local, just get it refretted, or a donor charvel off ebay... I have two charvel 3dr/predators, and the necks are awesome! I don't know anyone that makes that profile...

Looking good there  !

I'm slightly stealing the thread here but here goes:

I've been thinking about replacing the neck on my 3dr as well for a while now. The original neck's still in it and I think the frets are at the end of their rope in a short while. And I kinda am going for a Warren DeMartini kind of vibe so a maple fretboard strathead neck is what I'm looking for. You guys have any suggestions to a guy on a budget of around $200?

If you watch ebay for a while, you could pick up a pro mod neck for that price, especially a Japanese version. I am really trying to stick with the pointy Jackson style headstock. Not totally sold on any of the options that I have found so far...
