Picked up a Boss RV-6 reverb a few days ago. Its been a long process to figure out what stereo reverb to get, so I hope I made the right decision. Its been 15+ years since I have owned a Boss pedal. In the past, I just always found something that worked better for me. Still hoping for a Boss RV-500 in the future.

I have been using a Digitech hardwire RV-7 for modern P&W and its been doing the job, but coming up a bit short for ambient. So I did a quick head to head between the two pedals.

Spring - This was one of my favorite modes on the RV7. RV7:A- RV6:B-
Hall - Just started using Hall more. Love the Lex Hall on the Istomp, which is slightly different from the RV7. Boss was very good hear, but slightly preferred the RV7. RV7:A- RV6:B+
Plate - My favorite mode on the RV7. RV7:A RV6:B+
Modulate - When I watched the Boss demos, I always liked modulate. The modulate on the RV7, just doesn't get wet enough for what I want. RV7: C+ RV6:A
Room - Not a mode I use. Didn't really love either. RV7:C- RV6:C
Gated - Only on the RV7, been trying to work it in, but haven't found a good use yet. RV7:C-
Dynamic - Only on the RV6. I think I will find this useful. Enjoyed how it seemed to say out of the way for faster playing. RV6:B
Shimmer - Since I have the RV7 and not the Polara, only available on the RV6. I like this mode, still trying to figure out where to set the tone. Manual does not mention that tone is key for this mode. RV6:B
Reverse - Only on the RV7. Again, not been able to work this in. RV7:D
+Delay - Only on RV6. Again the manual does not mention that the time controls the delay time (thankfully the demo videos do). I think I will find this useful. RV6:B

Overall I am pretty impressed with the Boss RV6. I think it will be a nice addition for my P&W playing. The true test will be in a week when I try it live. I did notice that I had to tweak the knobs when switching between modes. On the RV7, I rarely tweaked anything when switching modes. So while I think the RV6 might be more powerful, its also easier to screw it up in a live setting if you are changing modes.

The Digitech RV7 seems to sound deeper and punchier than the Boss RV6. It seems to blend better with the dry signal. The Boss RV6 is more enveloping.

If you are wondering the Digitech RV7 is moving to my home board, which ironically is what I bought it for in the first place.
