I'm liking this little prick of a pedal. It's switchable between 9 and 18V and runs on 9V. You flip a little switch inside for 18V
But not without a little fuckery first.

Maxon pedals with internal 9/18 volt operation (the Pro and Pro+ models, VOP-9 etc) and those that have a charge pump to stabilize the voltage at 9 volts (OSD-9 etc): These pedals require huge amounts of current for the first few milliseconds, and then settle down to the listed current draw. This means they may not start up with a 100mA power supply (such as the Pedal Power 2+ or BBE SupaCharger). You may get lucky driving them from the higher current outputs (5 and 6 on the ones mentioned). But a 100mA source will power them, as long as they’ve been ”started up” with a battery. So keep a battery in the pedal, and on power-up temporarily remove the adapter plug (to let the pedal start up) and then plug it back in – that keeps it going from one of the ”normal” outputs on your power supply.

Since I'm using a Voodoo ISO-5, which the max 9V output is 400mA, I'm using that as the source of power. I tried this both ways, with the method above with just a battery first and then via the VooDoo ISO-5 and then without a battery and I don't notice much of a difference.

As far as the 18V vs 9V it may just add a tad of presence in 18V mode. It's mostly just louder in 18V mode, which I guess is the function. The boost on the pedal is real nice too. It adds a nice tone to the whole Rectum tube amp. Even without the MRX 10b EQ I'm using, it seems to add some midrange girth, a tad of presence, while still maintaining a slightly scooped tone. It's mostly the accentuation of the fast single string 6th string notes I was concerned about. Even without the EQ, the mud seems cleaned up a bit and the flub (as I call it with the rectifier) is minimized. As the tone enters the mouth and hits the pallet and mixes with the olfactory senses, it produces a nice array of .......

Ok, it's a damn pedal, not a glass of wine. But I like the thing. There's options with this pedal, which I like. Now the only thing I have to compare this to in the TS spectrum is the Biyang OD-12 X-drive and my VooDoo Sparkle drive. Both with a TS setting and the 3 way mod as well for added warmth or bright.

This pedal is very similar, but seems to allow more midrange through for that nice bite when chugging, but retaining the bass and allowing the top end sizzle through, but not an overpowering presence either.

So yeah, I actually bought something I like for once. Take a couple tokes and celebrate with me. I got this rectoff sounding pretty grand.

Here's a short video of the thing. Shit sound/Iphone recording.

So as I mess around with it a bit more, I'm finding the 18V setting is robbing what seems to be a fair amount of tone out of the pedal. Maybe it's because I'm running the Drive or Gain up a tad on the pedal. I don't find it has much sack without some drive, at least set at 9:00 and the tone between 9:00 and 12:00

I tried it with volume maxed, tone 1/4 to 1/2 and no drive and it doesn't seem to have the sack of the OD808's that I've seen in videos. I don't have an 808 myself, so I have no idea how it compares.

I had one of these and thought it was weak sounding compared to the 808. For boosting, I also had to run the drive up a fair bit.

Question, are you able to lift the drive and level knobs?

Mine does this and when lifted the do not function but change where the sweep is if not pressed down in the right spot.

I find this very strange.

Not sure what you mean by lift the knobs. Like push pull?

No, you sure you got the same pedal? Mine aren't push pull. I tried and pulled the knobs off :D

Ha! No. Sorry about the half photo but mine is a od9pro+ and for some unknown reason the knobs can be pulled up defeating their function. But as stated when not put back in the same spot changes the location of the sweep. Had the pedal for years and always thought it strange so I was curious if other's pedals were the same.

That's whacked. I thought the OD9 Pro + just came out rather recently. So you pull the knobs up and turn them and it changes the mid sweep. You probably have the only one on the planet that does that.

Doesn't change the mid sweep. Pull up and turning has no effect. If it's not in the right spot when pressed back down zero will not be to the left and 10 to the right. For example 0 may be at noon. I have to lift and turn to get it back right. Some shit really.

What caused the sort of squealing sound starting at around 4:14?

It adds a nice tone to the whole Rectum

;)

Congrats on the pedal, sounds better than the stock amp to my ears from your video.
