Picked this up at GC over the weekend for cheap. $40 new! Supposed to be a rehoused MXR Dist III, but is made in China with slightly lower end components.
This is really a no-brainer if you're in need of a nice and warm sounding od/distortion pedal and don't want to spend a ton of cash.
It's similar to the Classic Overdrive (which is the Chinese version of the MXR Custom Shop GT-OD) but it has bit more bite and gain on tap. Really a solid choice for warm bluesy grind and lead playing, and hit it with another boost and you're in saturated solo heaven! Really difficult to make this thing sound bad/harsh, however with the tone knob set too low it can get a little stuffy. I honestly like this pedal better than my OCD v.4 (which I've since traded) and it's comparable to my BB+, though not as versatile. The BB sounds a little more like an amp's natural overdrive but the CD is not far behind. Everything feels solid too, just like a US made MXR pedal.
I've owned many high end dirt boxes and I'm coming to the conclusion that except for a few notable exceptions, the MXR stuff is close enough in tone to the boutique boxes. For me it's not worth justifying the high price when you can get a pedal like this or the Classic OD for $40 new.
