I'll start out by saying that I'm not really a brutal high gain guy. I play in a band that does mostly 80,90's music. Recently, we've decided to incorporate some newer stuff that requires a more high gain sound. I generally play through a JCM800 head and pedals. I like the tone I get with this combination. I didn't really have the money to invest in a different amp that I would use on 6-7 songs tops and was searching for a more cost effective solution. I did my research on all the high gain pedals and came up with the Wampler pedal. It wasn't cheap for a pedal, but was way less expensive than some ( I can almost buy and amp for what an OKKO dominator costs, lol). I ended up buying the triple rec used for a good price. This was the first run that doesn't have the boost on it. The price was right on this one, so I bought it instead.
Anyway, I think that this pedal is going to work for me. I just used the low input on the Marshall and set it to clean. I adjusted the EQ on the pedal to the tone I wanted. There seems to be a lot of flexibility in it. The mid control is very powerful, as is the bass contour. And, it has a ton of gain. Way more than I'll ever use. I never got it past 1 or 2 o'clock, but it stayed pretty defined. That's the problem that I've had with high gain pedals is they get sloppy once you get the gain so high. The feel of the amp while playing is suitable as well. For those who are going to say that it doesn't feel like a dual or triple rectifier, that's not what I'm expecting. I'm expecting to get a decent tone for a cover band. I used it for the first time last night and it was easy to dial in a good tone in minutes. I'm sure it'll get better as I use it more.
Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it at this moment. I'm sure there by the time this thread is over I'll be convinced I should have gotten something else.
