Dumped the AxeFX long time ago but had GAS for a modeller . . .

plus:
- USB port, no need for USB-Midi-boxes and an interface
- headphone out
- the loop actually works well with (my own) preamps and tube-amp-loops
- harmonizer (simple)
- the price of course
- just 1RU

minus:
- quality of cab sims, amp models and such
- tweakability of fx
- software support seems to be down

I will use it for home wanking (got me a VHT2502 again) in combination with my two (tube) preamps and recording of course.

Anybody else using it?

hows it compare to the AF? thought about getting one of these......

Setting the unit up (on a Mac) was so easy, took me two minutes (you need to copy a components file manually though) to record something inside Logic while tweaking the parameters with the editor. The Editor works nice, fast and flawlessly. A big plus for me (probably a minus for others) is the fact, that inside the editor you have just one screen for all parameters/models/ . . . Thats awesome IMO.
Compared to the Axe it may look a bit "toyish", but the simplicity here is a big plus for my personal needs.

I didn't go thru all of the amp models (yet) and cab sims, some are really nice though - and (somehow typical for those modellers) they come alive when (internally) boosted with an Overdrive (there's a DOD 250 inside).

More to follow . . . will check tonight how the Black Tiger likes it (thats why I've bought it originally, because of its loop). I will use it for FX and for certain sounds, which my preamp isn't able to do (super cleans f.i.).

I have wondered about that thing, I use a PODXT Pro now for the screwing around but never plugged it into the pc before for editing.

I hear the fx are better on the digi.

Hi Scott,

Digitech = Lexicon - same chip, so the reverbs are off Lexicon units, and those are definitely very nice, not as "cold" as TC stuff, warmer. The delays are a bit limited though, I would love to have different time settings for left/right, but thats not possible. On the other hand - I still have a G Sharp somewhere to toy around with it as well . . .

I didn't like it.

Models didn't feel real to me.

and.........With a real preamp, I felt the 1101 sucked the tone away when I tried to use it for just the fx.
:(

I wanted to like it.

great interface. nice small size, etc.

Thanks.

Let me see if I can tweak it for my needs . . .

I used to use one with a Randall MTS head doing the 4CM with it. I thought the effects were pretty good. The modeling IMO was lacking. Better than a POD but no where near the Axe-Fx. It did have a little bit of tone suckage too but I dealt with it. With the Control One pedal board, it was pretty cool for effects.

Professionals/celebrities? Chris Broderick :)

(mir is schon klar das dich das nicht interessiert, wollte nur nochmal was posten ;) )

If they're running straight into the 1101 preamp then out to a Marshall poweramp like Chris said, what are all the JVM for?

Danke Piero, who are these guys? :D

Yo, no AxeFX - I like it anyway. With some good leveling of the volumes my preamp (actually Peter has built it) sounds very nice thru it, it doesn't color the tone of the pre, fx are nice, the Vin 4x12"-emu is nice too. I will upgrade it tomorrow to the latest beta and then I'll see further.

Harmonizer is nice, the clean coming off a Twin-Emulation as well.

Weird to see Broderick with a 6-string
It looks like a ukulele on him!

Hi Knut.

After another hour or so:
the Marshalls (JMP, 800s) are really really nice IMO.
I will post some clips over the weekend.

I have one and I LOVE it!!! I run it through a VHT 2/90/2 and I don't miss any of the amps I've owned in the past. The night I got it I ran it 4CM with my Engl SE and in minutes I had it sounding exactly like the Engl's own preamp. Then I got it to sound better. I also A/B'd it with a VHT D60 and preferred the Digitech. It's not Axe-FX feature wise but for the price it's a very good realistic sounding modeler. I'm not really impressed with the cab sims for the most part, that's my one and only gripe. I do like the Vintage 4x12, 1x12 Deluxe Reverb, and the Digitech Speaker Comp. I really wish impulses could be used with it!!! Those few cab sims are good enough though. You will LOVE the C48 firmware! Makes it into a new kinda monster. Be forewarned, X-Edit will not work on MAC with the beta firmware!!! I've learned to use the onboard controls though now that I'm jamming with a band again. It's very simple to program without X-Edit and you can access more features. The effects are GREAT! Almost all of them sound spot on with what they're modeling and they all serve a purpose

Thanks for the tips, Lord. That I was asking if the Mac X Editor would run with the C48 . . . bummer . . . Perhaps I will use boot camp for the first time then and install windooze on my MBP until I've created 20 good presets.

FX are cool. An fx-only machine will give you more options though. Since I'm using mostly a 380ms delay and some reverb, I don't care too much.
Also the harmonizer just adds one voice and has a limited number of scales, butr I can live with that.

For 500 bucks hard to beat IMO.

Hmm... As if I needed GAS for another modeller..
I have an old Pod, an XT Pro and a Sansamp PSA-1.

I actually tweaked a nice Metallica-type crunch on my XT yesterday. We`re doing two gigs with the Met-tribute in april, so I thought I`d dive into it right away. Into the fx return of the Mesa, cabs sims off, L6 Treadplate boosted with the internal TS model. Sounded pretty good, actually. And it sounded better as I turned up the volume. Not much of the digital fizz going on, and the juice of a 50 watt tube power amp.. :)
