Hello RT,

I am in a very fortunate position to be in - I received a pair of Avatar AV90s just a little while ago and installed them in a cabinet.

The cabinet is a Jet City vertical, closed back, 2x12.

I first tried them with an M65, which was good but a bit 'snappy' for my taste with everything set to 5/Noon (Except Master Volume) and an LP with humbuckers.

With the two AV90s together, they just work for this cabinet, which has been quite the difficulty overall.

I mean, they sound absolutely phenomenal in here - the first set or combination to ever do that in this cabinet.

I also have a Panama 2x12 cabinet that is open back that runs AV75s that also sounds absolutely phenomenal.

The issue? I ran them both through my Rivera at the same time and think I may like them together the BEST.

Two vertical 2x12's of goodness - Like a wild version of a 4x12.

Why is this an issue? I am tempted to swap a speaker around on each so that each cabinet can have that 'perfect balance' like I am hearing with both of the cabinets.

Saying that though, the speakers will not sound the same if I swap them around....only one way to know though I guess....

Should I just be happy with what I have or should I move things around? Probably will have to move them for experimentation's sake.

Now that I have finished up an intensive music project I was producing, my Avatar speaker thread will come back alive as I record various examples.

Did not expect these AV90s to absolutely kill in this setup. The depth and clarity and tightness is top notch. The soundstage for effects is as large and wide as you could want. Very happy with this recent acquisition.

UPDATE: Testing more at volume. Definitely some great sounding speakers still but there is just something special about the AV75s alone in the 2x12 still, even against the entire 4x12. I am wondering if this is due to Ohm switching as well. (16 on a 2x12 and 8 when in 4x12).

I am going to try my Panama 2x12 with the AV75/90 combo and see how it works.

After Mixing:

AV75 STILL REIGNS as the speaker king. At least when paired with my Rivera for sure.

I prefer the 2x12 loaded with only those instead of mixed.

Nothing quite can match the level of clarity and punch of these speakers so far.

Tat being said - the AV90s sound like they would be extra well suited for certain UK amps like Marshalls and especially Vox. They have a present but sweet top end that never gets too picky. The added bass adds some depth to each of the notes, especially in the higher refgister. The mids are present but slightly rounded, which works super well for gain, which Marshalls can bring in plenty.

Overall, very nice speakers!

Hi, First time poster here. Wow! I really appreciate all the time, and effort you put into testing the Avatar AV speakers, as I have read through it all several times. Your descriptions are very detailed, and informative. I was wondering if you would recommend the AV75, or AV90 to eventually fill a Marshall 4x12 cab. I currently have Celestion T75's in it, but will be trying to cut some of the T75 highs, because they are a bit much. I plan to start with two AVs either the AV75s, or AV90s to mix with the T75s, then adding the other two if it's an improvement over the T75s.
I like what you said about the AV90 adding bass, and depth to the upper register notes.
I'm running a Marshall DSL100H. It's gainy , and kind of modern sounding.
Thanks a lot for all your work and input regarding these speakers.

I'm not very familiar with Avatar speakers. Is there a Celestion or Eminence that would be comparable to the AV90 or does it have its own unique voicing?

I need to do a bit more testing on my little Marshall and get back to you.

The AV75s have a lot of bass and treble on tap so it does have top end as well. The midrange is present but very 'clear'. I can't think of any other way to describe it.

Again, let me do some testing with my Marshall.

There is also another member here who has played several avatar speakers and primarily with Marshalls.

I will find them and tag them here as well:

@EyesOfTheSouth!

The AV90 and AV75 sound distinctly different for sure.

No problem, I'm not in a rush, but overall, I'm trying to get down to one 4x12, and hopefully one speaker type in it.
I appreciate any advice or help. A Youtuber -- great guy, is also giving his opinions as he has used the 60,75, and 90 himself.
Thanks for tagging the other member.

Dave at Avatar said it was evenly balanced like a CL80, but I'm just as curious, because the sound samples on their site all sound exactly the same for the AV speakers. There're no overdriven samples, so no way to hear their tonal differences.
