Just got done watchin the new Extreme live dvd, and was VERY impressed with Nuno's tone. He always had a great sound but it killed on this one. Never gave much thought to those NBK100 amps he has (kinda ugly lookin) but if they get THAT sound, they must be impressive. Anyone own or played his Randell model??

I have been waiting for a good demo to come up, but never found any. I would like to try one. Does GC or SA carry these?

I have to tell ya, I just got done watching the new DVD as well and I dont think that I like his live tone all that much, especially compared to his recorded tone. I cant put my finger on it because sometimes I like it and other times, It bigs me a little, very weird!!!! I think that I live the way his rhythm work sounds but its a little harsh for me on the solo end of things...

Hes a hella good player with so much groove and swing and a penchant for melody and strong songwriting IMO..

Whats up with the "Im bored" bit when he goes into the solo of Play With Me? he did that in NYC as well...

That's just schtick. He's done that since the late 80s.

Sounds pretty good, I must say better than the now 'typical' modern metal type of tones.

It does sound a little fizzy in its (successful) attempt to sound aggressive and edgy in the top end when set to high gain. Although top-end aggressiveness is something I miss in more modern tones. It also sounds slightly 'congested' when the gain is cranked. And also I prefer a little more definition in a tone. But overall, pretty good. In fact it's very similar to a boosted, slightly mid-scooped Marshall JCM800 tone.

It seemed like there was some kind of high octave effect on his tone the whole time. Anybody else notice what I'm talking about?

There's a 'squark' in his tone, like a high mid boost, and I think it's the Bill Lawrence pups, Ive used them before and didn't like them. Apparently Nuno was very unhappy with the production model amps, he still uses the prototype.

Where did you hear that? Cause it does seem that the production is different than this live performance.

I'm sorry I can't really say on a public forum, but it's legit

After watching the DVD, I wasn't too happy with the sound of it. It's not bad, probably sounds a lot better in person, but on the dvd it sounded thin and fizzy.

I said the same thing recently and got blasted for it. I was told, but I can't say by who.

I'm not surprised. He wouldn't be the 1st guy who didn't use his sig stuff! :D

Well, you didn't quite say the same thing. You said that he used the Boss ME unit for his gain -- that's very different from him using the prototype amp.

Ok. Well, he doesn't use his sig amp for his gain.

Ha! Well, he does use "his" signature amp. . .just not the one that is available to everyone else. ;)

The YT clip sounded fuzzy and lacked botom end. I really liked the cleans.

Regardless of Nuno's sound, I love watching him play.

Nuno's a friggin beast, he's always had massive tone. The amp in the vids sounded like buzzed out oversaturated crap for high gain, though. :)
