At least six people were shot Monday in NYC, and a police officer was killed when a suspected gunman unleashed a barrage of gunfire inside a midtown Manhattan office building that houses the Blackstone investment firm and the headquarters of the NFL.

Video taken by a FOX 5 NY employee showed several officers carrying a person, and other officers appeared to be tending to a person lying on the ground. The news outlet reported the number of people killed, citing law enforcement sources.

Two police officers were shot, including the one who died, sources told Fox News.

The gunman was armed with a rifle and first opened fire in the lobby of the building on 52nd Street and Park Avenue. He went to another floor and shot people there, sources told Fox News, before going up to the 33rd floor and shooting himself.

And oh my gosh...

this shit happens every time.
you think in this day and age we can see something other than a grainy, distorted photo of an assassin

if it were me, the photo would be clear and sharp
 
Hence why I will no longer go into NY, New Haven and a bunch of other cities.
Also why I carry whenever & wherever I can.
Damn shame they were left with no option for self defense.
Scumbag could have saved everyone the trouble & just offed himself in the first place

The Armed Citizen articles in American Rifleman magazine (NRA) are the exact opposite of this latest crime, stories of law-abiding americans who were assaulted or their homes invaded by criminals and metted out firearms justice.
How many of these incidents would end quickly with just one armed citizen present?

Happens approximately 2 million times a year.
 
NBC and others keep quoting the NYPD commissioner ( who should know better) saying the shooter had an M4. The M4 is a military issue M16 variant that is either full auto or select fire/3 rd. burst. There are photos of the weapon where the logo for Palmetto State Armory is clearly visible on the lower. PSA does not manufacture weapons for the military.

So I guess when they can’t blame white people or current gun laws the plan is to now call run of the mill AR-15s M4s. 🙄

this is the first mass shooting in NYC in something like 20 yrs

are you any safer is a small town that no one heard of. those towns make the news every other night

In my smaller town (whole crappy state lol), I at least have the option to be armed.
The only places I can't legally carry are schools, municipal buildings, and Post offices (and my work).
I'm not paranoid, but prepared to at least offer some resistance if I have no other choice (rather be removed from the situation or not in the situation in the first place).
I also have no problem killing, as I hunt. I'd just rather not be in that situation where I am in fear for my life and have to neutralize a threat (there's enough guilt taking an animal, even if it's a clean kill - I do not want a human life on my conscience). I have no delusions of grandeur or nor do i want to be any kind of hero.

So - easier to avoid high crime or soft target areas, and any late night spots. I did all that crap in my 20's & 30's anyway.. now just want to live my life peacefully in my 50's. But I refuse to be helpless.
