Ok, so I get my OD9 Pro Plus yesterday, hooked it up, turned on my amp...and it sounds absolutely terrible. I have the pedal set to the 9V setting, tried both normal and boost modes, and had the standard drive 0, volume 10, tone 4-5 settings. Compared to my OD808 it sounded like it was barely even doing anything. I had to turn the gain on my amp from under 2 to about 4, I had to turn the gain on the pedal up from 0 to about 3 or 4, and I had to turn the tone knob from about 4 to 6 to even get anything half decent sounding. I figure this thing has to be broken, there's no way it can sound this bad. Any suggestions?

Oh and I'm using a power supply, not a battery in the pedal if that matters.

If its set to 9v shouldn't you have a battery in it? I dunno, just asking.

Well I'm using a 9V power supply that I use with all my other pedals. That shouldn't make any difference should it?

It's possible. Make sure that the tip and ring have the same orientation that your pedal needs. Some pedals use different configs, like my MojoVibe. It has a completely different ring/sleeve orientation than normal pedals. Something to check anyway.

It appears to be the same? I was going to try a 9V battery in it last night but I couldn't find any here.

Run to the store yo.

Walmart has zinc 9v (better than alkaline for pedals) - 2 for $1. I just bought a shitload of them.

What sounds bad about it? Or does it just not sound like your 808?

It is a different pedal, I would not expect the same settings to sound the same.

It sounds really thin and weak, almost like it's barely even boosting anything.

The pedal might be designed to have a more transparent/subtle effect then what you're used to as well....

That's really strange Mark. I use mine with a battery and it is amazing with the 5150.

Something is wrong...Did you buy it new?? I'm willing to bet it's a power issue.

Nah man...

It works like any other tubescreamer. It doesn't have the mid honk either. It's a great boost pedal. It just has more features than your standard OD808 or tubescreamer.

I bought it used, but it's dead mint and the guy has all positive feedback.

Try it with a fresh battery, so you can rule out if it is your power supply or not.

I will, but I can't see my power supply being the problem. All my other pedals sound fine, including the OD808.

Yeah, but it might be something internal regarding the power supply ya know.

I noticed with mine that it really didn't work like a typical Tubescreamer where you can keep the level up gain down, you needed to use some gain from the pedal to drive the amp harder, I usually used the 9V setting, mid-boost on, kept the gain on the pedal at 9-10 o'clock, level up. I switched to an Analogman modded TS-808, I like the lower mids better, now I usually keep the gain at zero, level all the way up.

Yeah that's the only way I could get it to sound half decent, but I didn't think it sounded anywhere as good as my OD808 setup like that.

That's really strange dude. Mine works like a typical tubescreamer. In fact, I find myself lowering the gain on my 5150 when using it! Literally, my gain on the red channel is on 2 or so.

I run the gain under 2 on the lead channel when I use my OD808, but I have to raise it to about 4 to get the same amount of gain with the OD9 Pro Plus.

Strange man...Dunno what to tell ya!

If the battery doesn't work out, try calling Maxon maybe? Or maybe LordsOvChaos or one of the pedal cats can take a look at it.
