Hi Guys,
As usual, before pulling the trigger I would like to get some advice from the ones here on Rig Talk who have tried or are currently using Diezel amps with BK pickups in their guitars.
Here is what is it about:

I have a 2009 Gibson LP Studio with stock pickups (490R neck and 498T bridge). Body and neck are Mahogany, Rosewood fingerboard.
My amp is Diezel D-moll.

Since I changed from Engl to Diezel 3 years ago (best thing I could have done ! ), I don't play my LP anymore due to a terrible midrange heavy and dark sound of this guitar and its pickups through D-moll. Bridge PU is OK for distortion but not for cleans, and neck PU is muddy as hell with distortion and cleans are OK.
In order to get an acceptable sound out of it, I have to constantly have the mid-cut ON and dial loads of treble on my amp.
My main guitar has Dimarzio D-Activator bridge and Paf Pro neck and it's night and day compared to my LP with stock pickups.

Therefore I would like to upgrade my LP with nice PU that will bring it to life again, and I have decided I will go with BKP, for their extended range of tones and clarity.

I have already a metal oriented guitar for heavier styles, and I am looking to make out of this LP my allround guitar from anything from Funk and Pop to heavy rock (imagine Metallica Black Album as heaviest).
I intend to use coil splitting for single coil clean kind of sound and direct mount the PU.

After some hours of research on this forum and youtube, I have come up with this solution:
- The Mule neck and Riff Raff bridge, or
- Riff Raff neck and Alnico Nailbomb bridge.

I fear Nailbomb is to high output for what I want, and Mule neck will be too weak if splitted. D-moll as tons of gain on tap, I don't need necessarily high output PU to get a heavy sound out of it.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice, and sorry if the post is too long.
Looking foreward to read you guys.

Cheers.

Riff Raffs are pretty bright. So they may be good. Haven't played Mule. Nailbomb are relatively thick sounding but a little generic/bland in my experience.

I would strongly recommend Rebell Yells for your LP. I had exactly the same problem with my les paul (490 and 498 as well), it was dark and muddy. It was my first purchase of a BKP a the time, I asked them a couple questions by email and they recommended a set of Rebell Yells. It is really a perfect match, best pickup i've ever heard for a les paul. I have other guitars with Nailbombs, which are nice too, but for a Les Paul nothing beats the rebell yell imo. They were specifically designed to go on a LP and you can hear it!

Thanks Guys for your replies.

@Ratou: feels good to here you experienced the same. This will be my first BKP purchase also. I know there are some other good brands of PU, but for now I want to go BKP only, it's decided. I will contact BKP support and ask some questions definitely. I have never looked at RY, but this might be the right choice. For Nailbombs, I feel they are too heavy for me, I am not looking for high output.

@Amberience: You nailed it man !!! Your sound is awesome, if I can reproduce this with my amp and guitar, I will be happy. So I am almost over for the bridge PU quest, it will be RY. But what a bout the neck RY ? Does it have nice clean sounds ??
I intend to use coil splitting and use mainly the neck PU for clean sounds and funky chops single coil sound. I fear that RY neck is too high output for my need and that it pushes the amp to crunch...

Thanks again Guys, I am going to investigate more on the RY.

Cheers.

No problem! Yes the nailbombs are much higher output than the RY and more modern, not what you want imo. The RY are very versatile but a have just little more output than the 490 and 498. When you roll off the volume you'll have slightly more crunch but still really nice. However, as with every BKP i have, the cleans are just beautiful, especially on the neck pickup. You'll see what i mean as you soon as you strum a chord ;)

PS. My LP doesn't have coil split so I can't help you with that

Yeah versatility is exactly what I am looking for, but with more rock attitude than anything else.
For this LP, clean sounds are very important for me, and this is one of the reasons I want to go specifically with BKP, and you just confirmed that.
I play mainly clean on neck PU and distortion on bridge, using only one lead channel of amp and a lot of guitar volume knob to clean up the sound.
Basically, I just change the PU selector to get my 3 sounds (clean crunch lead) without touching amp channel.
Looks like RY is the answer for me.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with me.

I write tomorrow to TIM @ BKP to ask for his opinion, I 'll let you know. Hope he will suggest RY also, I want them so bad !!!

Cheers.

If I'm honest, my neck pickup is really damn bassy, and I haven't been able to dial it out. I'm thinking maybe I need some electronic wizard to fit a low-end scoop somewhere in the signal path.

But I keep it because it has a coil-tap and it SOUNDS EPIC.

I heard the bass lift in the neck position is really guitar dependent. Most of the time I use my bridge anyway.

I have A D-Moll. I also have BKP Rebel Yells. In a Les Paul custom. Wouldn't you know, I only went a did a recording!

Loved that (pickups and the song). Do you have anything with same guitar/pickups doing edge-of-breakup/clean?

Looking for some new PUs for my LP and these have me curious now.

Cheers!

Hi Guys,

Just to share with you what the people from BK recommended me for my LP.

They told me that the Cold Sweat were the best match for a dark and mid-heavy LP. THey have very good definition and clean tones, and they are more on the modern sounding side.
But the Rebel Yell also were recommended, being according them more classic sounding than the CS.

So finally I want the best of both worlds and I will order a Cold Sweat neck and a Rebel Yell bridge.

One last question:
The guys at BKP only recommended to me sets of PU like RY set or CS set.
Will it be a mismatch or mistake if I take CS neck / RY bridge instead of a set ?

I don't think personaly this is a bad thing but I don't have experience with BKP, this is the problem...

Thanks, cheers.

I had once a Cold Sweat bridge in an alder body guitar and it sounded very bright. Clean tones were excellent. Anyway, I sent it back.
As for the PU set, the people from BKP always recomend to get the whole set. The explanation is, that the PU's as a set are dedicated AND calibrated to each other.
