So, I've got this weird metallic buzz sound in my rig... If I get close to my cab, it sounds like my top left speaker. It's distinct when on my clean channel or if I use my hand and bump the cab or head. It's almost like a cheap ass camcorder mic clipping kind of sound. Here's the gear list and a back story of the shipping drama......

Framus Dragon
Splawn 4x12 w/ X Pattern V30 (Hellatone 60s) and K100 Celestions. It's a K100 that the sound is coming from, but I'm not 100% it's the cab.

When my cab was shipped to me, UPS did a fine job of breaking two solder joints in the cab as well. It was DOA and I had to re-solder the input AND the ground on one of the speakers (the K100 that the buzz sound seems like it's coming from).

Now, my hands are still blistered and fuxxored from pulling the jack and one handle to do the soldering, so I'm praying it's something relatively simple.

Huge edit
It's the speaker cabinent! I swapped cabs and the noise went away. So... Check out the vid below... Hopefully it's something that can be rectified, as I don't believe it's the sellers fault and I'm flat broke : \ Just poor timing. I'd love to not have to replace a speaker!

Let me know your opinions, as this is my first attempt at trouble shooting something in a rig in a long time.

Thanks guys and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

EDIT! Here's a VID of the nasty freaking racket!

have you plugged it into a different cabinet to see what you hear>? that might erase the cab from the equation...

Yea, hooked the head up to my V30 Randall cab and she doesn't buzz.. Uploading a YouTube vid of the sound right now. Man I have BULLSHIT luck

Sounds like your guitar.

O'rly?

Same guitar through same head through a different cab doesn't yeild same result.

Sounds to me like the cage of your speakers are buzzing against the baffle in the cab. Check the tension of the speaker mounting screws.

This something that should just be cranked down or is there a trick to it? Forgive the new questions, my former junk sounded like junk no matter what you did to it, so I just left it be.

Not Too tight or Not too loose, and make sure ALL of the places designed to have a screw mounting the speaker to the baffle has the appropriate screw.

Hope this helps

Maybe a speaker coil that's off center. That will cause buzzing just like that

How could I check for/rectify that if it happens to be the case?

Sometimes the plastic handles on Marshall style cabs will buzz like that, or sometimes the rear panel of the cabinet cab vibrate if not all of the screws are in and tightened properly. Sometimes it's the fit of the brace from the front of the cab to the rear which touches the back panel, buzzing because it's too short etc...

Take off the back panel and play... See if you can focus in on where the problem is coming from. If you're certain it's coming from one of the speakers, then you just need to figure out if the speaker is defective or if the installation of the speaker was done poorly.

Let us know which it is

Its definantly the speaker, I (by going through the input hole and removing the handle) pulled the speaker down and it still buzzed. I could place my finger on the cone and it would stop, and a time or two I got it to stop a time or two mounted, but eventually it hurt my pride and continued vibrating. I'm hoping it still something simple, but its looking dismal. Any other things I could try on the speaker before I end up ordering another? My diagnostics were limited by the lack of a square drive bit to remove the whole back of the cab.

That sucks brother! Why the hell didn't Splawn use a phillips head like everybody else? I guess a square drive would be less likely to strip. You could pick one up cheap at a hardware store/home depot type place. Don't throw in the towel yet. Definatley take it apart and try to diagnose it first. Zachman has good ideas. Would take back off and properly tighten down the 4 screws that hold the speaker in place. Check all 4. The noise could just be transfering through the whole speaker and making it seem like the cone. Good luck man.

Possible the speaker cage is warped/bent, or... the cone may have a tear, or maybe it's blown the coil. If you have somewhere near you, that re-cones speakers-- you might want to have them diagnose it.
