Not only am I an idiot and a wet vagina. I may also suffer from retardation.

Some may have seen me post about needing new tubes but all I really needed was to put my ohm switch to 8. I did get some good tube ideas tho :)

I know I had my cab at 16 because I used to run a full stack at 8. I must have rewired my cab to 8 after selling my other cab and forgot.

So now the questions:

If you have an 8 ohm cab should you still get sound if you have amp at 16? Because I got no sound and now wondering if my 16 ohm slot is damaged.

I know its very bad not to match but I've read running the amp higher or lower will harm either the amp or the cab. I can't remember which is which. 16 ohm amp to 8 ohm cab will hurt the amp or hurt the cab?

Also vice versa will running a 4 ohm amp into an 8 ohm cab hurt the amp or hurt the cab?

Different amps respond different to mismatches .... Like my THD's - They can easily handle any mismatch.

You can do damage to the amp .... in fact it could be serious - like the transformer.

This mismatch is fine with most amps & cause no problems - But it will change the tone, attack & feel.

Ow. I did this.. Should it have at least produced sound?

.its working now that the amps back to 8 ohms. Sounds fine but only played briefly.

To be continued......

Usually it produces sound ... But I am not going to guess what happened from here with your amp. If it was for a short amount of time - you might have done nothing or did some wear & tear to your tubes. Either way if it is running fine now I would not worry about it. Chances are it is fine.

it's generally ok to run an amp into a load (speaker/cab) that has a higher resistance (ohm) than what it's rated for because what it's "rated" for is the minimum electric load it needs. (ohms) - you should never plug an amp into a load that is LESS than what it's rated for because that can damage it
