What do I need to use my mac and record with a mic and not the camera mic on the laptop? Got a Audio buddy mic pre amp, and a 57 what else do I need to do?

Besides pack up my Scorch?

I used to record straight to my my PC using Audacity with just a mic pre and a 57. It has been a while but I may have used a small/cheap mixer in between them too.

Just finished it up. It goes out USPS priority tomorrow.

Looks like you just need some software. Was Garage Band loaded onto your Mac?

Oh yeah, you might want some monitors too. All of my clips I just used the cheap speakers that came with a Dell I had.

JB...ya I have garageband. Got $500 headphones, no speakers.

You should be all set then... We all expect 10 high quality clips by tomorrow morning. :D

GB and iMovie should be all you need. You have an interface, mic and camera. What format does the camera spit out files? mov, mp4, AVI. Mac doesn't like certain formats. If you have one of those evil formats get Mpeg Streamclip to convert the files. It's free and it's Mac O/S compatible.

What you wanna spent? Lots of options.
For interfaces in the simple dept. Apogee duo and then above that any of the Motu stuff plays super nice with OSX.
Software... http://www.reaper.fm basically free or if you wanna do the "right" thing 60 bucks.
Alternatively, logic express is a great choice fir like 100 bucks

same spelling?
Anyways with what you have...
Install sound flower (freeware)
Select your audio buddy as input in GarageBand and soundflower as output, then select audio buddy as output in soundflower and in system options sound select sound flower. This way you can record the 57 while using the iSight camera in iMovie to capture all of it. I got a few vids I done like that at www.Facebook/loudfunk if you're curious.

Yes Guitar-amp-mic-audio buddy-GB. Make sure you press record on the camera first then GB..it's easier for syncing later.
After recording import the Movie into GB line them up by dragging and dropping. Kill the volume on the camera mic channel in GB and then "share" or export the movie.

Logic is much easier to do this with than GB. If you find that the video is whacked out in GB you may want to get Logic or Logic Express.

After you export the movie, bring it into iMovie and add titles, cut, edit the video and export. Then upload the video to YT.

It takes a little time to do the whole process, but you'll get used to it.

Thanks Mark. I will attempt to do what you have outlined!

Apogee Duet! Simple better sound quality playback through headphones. You can also use Apogee One but I prefer Duet. I run the axe in the mic pre and the +48 volt off, I can hear the axe through my amp while I record. Very flexible. Also has 2 line out for stereo powered Monitors.
