Ok, so my V30 has crapped out....

Doesn't have any continuity between pins and nothing is visibly broken. I'm guessing something broke inside. Kind of bums me out, because it was a well broken in speaker and had minimized that V30 harshness.

So, I need a new speaker. Currently I have an Avatar 2x12 and have been running a V30 and an Elite80. I'm not a big fan of the V30s by themselves but they seem to be fairly mix friendly. I will most likely get another one, but wanted to get some input on another speaker type to mix with the Elite80.

The Elite80s sound ok, but could use a little more aggressive mids/high mids. The V30 complemented it pretty nicely. I'm not real familiar with any other type of speaker except a G12M, which I don't really like with the Renegade. So what kind of speaker options for aggressive mids/high mids?

Also, what are other speakers for a V30 type tone? It'd be cool to find that tone without the harshness. There are the Hellatones from Avatar, which is a V30 that they can somehow relabel. Priced pretty good and got some break in on them. There is the Warehouse Veteran30, but I don't really know much about Warehouse speakers. They are cheap, I know that much. What other options are there?

Not sure about the 60L, but I have and use two Retro 30's. By the description of the 60L, I would say yes, they should be comparable because the R30 has deeper lows than a regular V30 and the mids are smoother, as if the speaker has been broken in. The R30 is also 75 watts, so cone breakup happens a little later, resulting in a clearer high gain tone IMO.

I talked to the guys at WGS. We decided the Retro was what I needed and I liked the clips considerably more than the Veteran 30 or the Reaper.

It's got a pretty decent clean tone as well, but I liked the ET65's clean tone more. I may pick up one of those later and mix with the Retro.

I was just about to type a response about this.

The Retro will get you closer to the Celestion V30 than the Veteran will.
The Veteran is smooth and creamy in the mids whereas the Retro has a little more sizzle and high-end.
Both the ET65 and the Retro have more sparkle than the Veteran, and that tends to work very well for clean tones.
My fave for cleans was the ET65 followed closely by the Retro, but I miss the smoothness of the Veteran when it comes to leads and high-gain tones in general.

So yeah, I've used each of them mixed with the British Lead and I always come back to the Veteran, but that's just me.
I can attest to their reliability after nearly 3 years of owning them.

Yup.
I don't like the British Lead on it's own, but it mixes nicely with either the Veteran, Retro or the ET65.
