Had some spare time yesterday so thought i would record a quick test clip of one of my Marshall mods. It's a 1978 JMP with an all-tube high gain mod, voiced for heavier tones.

It's just a very quick rough clip, which was done with my EMG loaded Superstrat plugged straight into the amp. No pedals or anything. Gain at noon, Master at 9 o clock.

Took 5 mins to record in Garageband, amp was loaded down with a dummy load and hooked up to my Mbox2. I used a Mesa 4x12 V30 impulse response plugin, which i believe was posted up by lolzgreg some time ago. Got it dialed in so close, that it sounds identical to the tone I'm getting in the room with my real cab.

Cheers!

Isn't 'Oldschoolmetalomica Mod' original enough? :D

Sounds great! Those impulses seem to be getting better and better. I'm half the mind to start experimenting with re-amping into them in addition to mic'ing my cab and combining..

Can you play some more open chords with some verb added? Would love to hear that part of the amp

Okay. I totally ignorant. What is an Impulse response plugin? How would I use it? I have my amp, Presonus Firebox and Garageband. Do I need anything else? I'm assuming it's some sort of program that takes your signal from your amp(speaker output?) and makes it sound like whatever cab/speaker you want?

BTW, the clip sounds great!

You need a DI box in that allows you to split the dry signal into your DAW and the other side goes to the amp so you can play along. Once in your DAW, the dry signal can be put through an amp sim and then into the impulse cabs. (by dry i mean not colored with distortion)

Or you take the load out from a hot plate or something similar which will be your amps gain (it will sound fizzy) into your mixer/DAW and pump that track into the impulses.

Some people use this method as well as re-amping. That would be the best of all worlds!

Thanks. I'm going to look into it a bit more.

Thanks for the comments/replies everyone!!

I will do my best to put out some more clips of the amp. Hopefully should get some more free time at the weekend if all goes to plan.

As for the DI/Impulse Response setup, i would be more than happy to take some photos to show you how I'm doing it. It's so simple you will laugh at how easy it is to set up :) Keep an eye on this thread and I'll get some pics of my recording setup for you guys who are interested.
