Contemplating the route of Reverb, Ebay....my initial thought is it's the devils kool-aid...

how many of you guys still move your gear via those venues? Small stuff, pedals, etc ..not a big deal...but thousands of dollars at risk... eesh!

I pretty much stick to here, or craigslist if I am selling. I really prefer not to buy on craigslist if I don't have to though.

Reverb Only since they have sellers protection. Stuff moved quicker if your prices are good

I sell more on Reverb and ebay than I do on the forums lately. I don't sell much but I did just sell a few items this week. I have been lucky on there. In fact, despite many ebay horror stories from others the only times I have been burned were on forums.

Just don't sell to people requesting a different address for shipping or anything weird like that and price your item lower than the others to sell. IMO shady people are everywhere, even on Rig Talk unfortunately.

I prefer to sell to a well known rig talk member over any other avenue but everything is a gamble these days and for the items I have been selling, Reverb has been the way to go.

For years I read how others were done with eBay/Reverb and got burned. I had a good run of luck I suppose and kept at it. But this year I got burned twice and feel like I am done. Too many abusers of the system out there as well as shipping companies throwing stuff around carelessly while charging super high fees to do so.

I hate the shipping process as a seller on reverb. But what do I hate more? PayPal. But with the shipping I have anxiety over damage, theft, fraud, etc. PayPal is getting more and more unfriendly to use as time passes.

I love buying on reverb. I do a ton of local buying and selling. Craigslist and offer up.

I also have a really good salesman who really does hussle for me at Sam Ash. A month or so ago I got a mij Jackson DK2M for $251 out the door with a flight case.

I also snagged an ESP Eclipse for $500 out the door. Schaller floyd, dimarzio illuminators, and hipshot tuners that was mint. That is the same price as a LTD ffs

I am picking up another guitar from a CL ad today in a bit. I am a MIJ Jackson wh0re and prices are on the way up.

I prefer to sell on CL or OfferUp. Meet at neutral locations, never had a problem in 13+ years and hundreds of transactions.

Ive had real good luck on reverb for years with the exception of my last sale which convinced me to abandoned that platform for sales for good. Buyer’s behavior prostituting the “buyers protection policy” buying to try and returning is a shame.

I've stuck to CL as a seller past few years.... it's just better to dal with folks straight up, imo.
via Reverb and EBay I've only dealt pedals, pups,...misc stuffs
Last significant sell was years ago...1k set of (golf) irons...had to deal with two scammers, PP,...what a mess.

Devils Kool-aid... ? I'll probably try it one more time ?

I don't know how you can get burned on eBay and Reverb as a buyer. All the protections belong to the buyer, while the seller has next to none. I've probably done over 700 eBay and 100 Reverb transactions. Never had a problem other than idiot buyer who left me neutral feedback with the comment, "Item as described, but not as expected." If that's the worst that's happened to me, I've had a good run.

I just hate how eBay and reverb take care of the buyer and screw the seller EVERY damn time. PayPal is the same way. I don't sell online anything more than a pedal or something along those lines. Shit, last amp I sold cost damn near $100 to ship. I would rather sell for a hundred less local and have no bullshit to deal with.

Offer up has been great for me here in Tampa.

I just spent 190 to ship an amp across the country

OUCH! What amp was it, like a really heavy power amp or what? Who did you ship through?

Screw that. The hassle of shipping is only getting worse.

Not to mention PayPal. By the time Its sold u
You are down 10% may ad well list it and that without the shipping on CL. NOT NEARLY as much bullshit.

My problem is that everyone near me wants a $2K guitar for $200, and wants to sell their $200 guitar for $2K.

The nearest decent area for high end stuff is 3 hours away (6 hour round trip), so it's almost impossible to make a deal without shipping something.

GC is a joke, because you get 60% (if you're lucky) of what you could get from selling it on your own (which around here, you can't sell it at all unless it's low end, or just straight up give it away).

I haven't sold anything on ebay in years, and the last time I tried selling on Reverb it turned into a cluster.

I will be fair and say, though, that you can get some REALLY killer deals from GC on used gear (they list things incorrectly a lot), and they ship free to your local store (most of the time). They are good for that. But yeah, selling/trading to them is a foolish move.

I definitely like buying from their used section. I got a killer PRS CU22 from them a couple of years ago.

It's always a gamble when answering a 4 year old thread.

Kidding. ;)
