can't see a bloody thing but listen to what's going on--landau baked potato tone!!!
i was fortunate enough to see this lineup--no offense to abe jr. but vinnie is, well....vinnie. i'm calling him the best drummer on planet earth.

i've seen him with this group, with mike landau's trio (with jimmy johnson on bass = landau's best trio ever!), sitting exactly where this was shot from

and with robben ford. every time was an honor.

and look at his discography--faith hill, megadeth, burt bacharach, sting, jeff beck, just a few little people...

and if you want to hear how unbelievable he is at reading, take a gander at this filthy performance-don't bail out listen from beginning to end:

look at the names in the credits for the sax section!!

the legend is he was late to the session that day, and walked in after the full band had run though it twice in the studio

as the musicians were heckling him for potentially delaying the session, he sat down with cig still dangling in his mouth,
opened his chart and said let's do it

and nailed this take, sight-reading it for the first time as he was playing it!

nice post, occasionally listen to fusion , this is cool indeed, vinnie is a beast, and the other guys are certainly up to par:

here is the other monster group:

saw this lineup at catalina bar and grill many years ago and it was the weckl show...that guy is a flawless robot second only to vinnie; the vinmeister and the dyno four just has more grease and emotion

chick corea's band is a straight supercomputer data dump. i do think patituci is the best bass player alive though.

I don't think anyone else can even come close to these two groups.....

they are great
drum wise, I prefer Toss Panos to anyone

what about the baked Potato allstars w/ Jeff Richman?

after seeing mike with toss, i thought it was cool, but i mentioned to him that there was nothing as cool as when he has vinnie and jimmy johnson as his rhythm section.

the very next time he played at the potato, guess who his band was?

vinnie and jimmy

i actually saw jeff richman for the first time in south carolina in some blues bar while i was on a business trip.
great player, great tone, but no landau or gambale.

in that department of fusion,
holdsworth normally travels with some monsters...gary husband on drums, jimmy johnson on bass, and steve hunt on keys was a pretty massive lineup.

would have loved to have seen shawn lane with ricky r on drums and jonas hellborg on bass too.

I like Richman for his songs and musicality

Gambale = every time I see him I feel like he's beating me over the head with his technique

Landau = I'm still trying to get him
I get the tone, but I'm still not getting the songs

Toss = makes me hard

Vinnie is considered the best of course and is just ridiculous
