Opinion about the custom audio od100se+

I've never played or owned a SE+, but I do have the Classic Plus. I absolutely love the Classic Plus and the 10 other people who have played through my amp love it. If I weren't fixing to buy a bunch of recording gear, I would probably pick up the SE+. The SE+ is my next amp purchase.

Yoeri had the same opinion I had but he has since played another one that he really dug so maybe something has changed on the amp. You would be doing yourself a favor if you could try one for yourself if at all possible

all the best

Indeed, I played an older OD100, serial #39 or #40 or see and that was simply amazing. I blew me away, even on low volumes it sounded MASSIVE. All the others I have played were great on the clean channel but yuck on the OD. I haven't played the Classic nor the SEs loaded with El34s but I have played about 8 other reincarnations and always felt the same.

I traded an SLO100 (which I hated) for a OD100SE+ a couple of months ago. I'll agree with some of the other comments about it having it's own voicing on the gain channel. It's not an easy amp to play, like a JVM for example, but it cuts through a mix like nothing else I've owned. It doesn't have a lot of 'sag'....it's very immediate.

I gig with it just about every weekend and couldn't be happier with it.

Have you considered an Egnater Mod 50?

Most pleasing cleans and high gains I've ever heard.

Plus, the mid gain sounds are as good as it gets in a modern-style, channel switching amp.

The Egnater modular stuff is pretty much perfection IMO.

I had a modded 3+, so it might be apples and oranges compared to the OD100 stuff, but I found the gain channels to be crunchy and not fun to play. It was kind of like a gainier Soldano sound. A little bright for my tastes. Ch3 had more gain than I could use, but it was still like I was fighting it.

CH2 was an killer rhythm sound though. Very tight and heavy.

I have had mine for over 2 years. I purchase a OD100 and had it converted to an SE+. I currently have no desire to replace it with another amp. I do want a Blankenship, but not as a replacement. I have come to find that OD100 does not have many fans on this forum, but you go to another forum, and it is a different story. Anyway possible try before you buy. I was set on buying an Einstein for a long time. When I finally went down to buy it, I ended up going home with the OD100. Again, the amp had the sound and feel I was looking for. I tried about 80% of all popular boutique amps out there. Many great amps out there. It just comes down to actually playing one. You may even find you may like something you never knew you would. Well good luck and looking to buy a new amp is always a great thing.

Mark,

Can you bring that up Saturaday? I'd love to give yours a shot.

The Huge Racks Inc forum always seemed to have a high concentration of Suhr/CAE fans, at least a few years ago... :)

Yes it is still like that and thats was who I was talking about. It seems here, most people are geared towards high gain.

You will notice that every forum has its prefered gear and hype. What I have noticed about this forum is that there are more opened minded people who speak there minds whereas you get excommunicated at other forums if you speak against the top products lol. :D (all IMHO)

I tried the CAE stuff and hated the gain channel but I always strongly urge people to try out gear for themself. What works for me might not work for them.

So, you're saying CAA's are not high gain?????

In my experience, they have TONS of gain. Listen to SamHill's stuff. The only stuff I can think of in the same price class with more gain would be Engl, Diezel, Framus. I would go as far as to say the SE and higher CAA's have more gain than a Mesa Dual Rec.

Huge Racks Inc has a completely different demographic than the typical brootz high gain crowd
