Opinion on the horizontal 2x12 cab

I’m strongly considering an ENGL pro cab to pair with my diezel VH4.

I have a mesa 2x12 vertical with V30s but I found it to be too bright and overly punchy. I’ve also tried an Orange PPC 2x12 and it was too dark.

I hope the ENGL sits somewhere in the middle, I’m not looking for super metal, super tight tone but rather nice crisp mids, not too bright, not dark.

Would you recommend the ENGL cab?

I've never tried an orange cab or played a diezel.

Based on a comparison 3 years ago. Mesa 2x12 vs engl vertical slanted 2x12. I thought the mesa was dark and more mid low focused than actual bass.

Still focus on quality. But maybe keep an eye out on a deal And see if you can't swap out the speakers? Almost everything (including engl) uses those clips no soldering so pretty easy.

Or alternatives. Mojotone slammins or aviator the stock model that's $299. Mojo seemed to be closer to mesa but with hesu demons ever so slightly roll off high end. And aviator seemed to make dv77 less dark. So do with that what you will.

Otherwise I think you might wanna pass on both mesa and engl based on your wants.

I ended up trying an horizonal ENGL 2x12. Sounded pretty good, but not the tone I wanted. It had a distinctive "bite" in the upper mids, very interesting.

Still too "metal" sounding.

I have a pair of Engl E212VHB PRO cabs for many years; used them with E530 + E850/100, now using them with Artist Edition 100 E651.

They're pretty neutral with tight bottom end; and cover classic 70s hard rock (what I use them for today; I have my AE dialed in like Paul Stanley / Kiss), but with the rack rig it went from pristine cleans to more compressed high gain saturation than I'd ever use, with usable sounds in between.

I think these cabs show the character of the amp very well, and help focus the bottom end. May want to try just the Engl cab alone, and dial in your amp to it? I'd guess the two different cabs don't work well together at the same amp settings.

I never really got into diezal but isn't it known for having a pretty deep low end?

I figured my engl e670fe was closest to diezal. Playing out of my avatars vs. Engl cabs. To my ears engl cab it's crisp, good high end, and good low end. Avatar dampens not at all what I'd consider dark, and less thump.

just my take. Op was saying they didnt want tight.
frankly the OP may just benefit from a speaker change. If they want flat get those seventy 80s. Or a v30/g12h30 mix (at least in whatever used avatar i have. Contemporary or 3d. This has been my fav classic rock cab).

Or if I'm right about diezal low end have another amp for classic rock/whatever low end they are looking for.

I haven't tried a Diezel cab; I use a Mesa compact 2x12 with my VHX
