Some of you might know that I am mainly a bedroom player and I tend to record the preamp section of my mark III through my two notes Torpedo CAB. I ve recenlty got the ISP Theta preamp pedal and it's really amazing and versatile for the high gain thing Im into. However, I don't find myself playing the mark III a lot, mainly because I live in an apartment and that thing is super loud and secondly because I really like the tones I get through my virtual cabinets. I have an isolation cabinet which houses a WGS Vetaran 30 but it's not often that I open it up! To be honest, I've used my mark III 3 times in a band situation in the studio through a Marshall 4x12 1960 and the tone was incredible! I'm into 80s + 90s metal (mainly Metallica..) so the mark III delivers in spades. Having said that, I ve been tempted to sell my mark III for about 1.400 euros (that's a good price here in Athens where Im located since they are really rare) and maybe try the Bogner Shiva EL 34 that I buy used for about the same amount of money. Now, I ve never played one and since those aren't really available here in Greece, I'd just have to order one from Italy. A friend of mine insists that I kemper - profile my mark III and get myself a kemper but from the clips that I've watched I m far from sold.... I'm just considering my options and need your opinion on that. From all the clips I've listened to , I really dig the tone but I don't know if it's tight enough for the old Tallica riffing and stuff. Also, if you have some other amp suggestions, just let me know!
This is what my mark III + iso box sounds like at really low volume (smartphone recording)

Thx for your feedback!

I've not played a Mark III nor a EL34 Shiva, but I did own a KT88 20th anny Shiva and have played a Mark V on a several occasions. I would not go that route for the tones your after. The Shiva, at least the one I owned, is a bad ass amp, but it's not the feel or tone your after IMHO. The Mark kind of nails that 80-90s thing your into.

Maybe I should just keep the mark and save some money until I can afford to buy a used wizard!

I play through a Shiva and love the amp, but I don't think you will. To me it is more of a mid gain amp in today's world. I agree - not really the amp for the tones you are after. Mine can get pretty heavy but it is not the over top gain that you seem to be into or even 80s tones.

Thx a lot for taking the time to answer man! Both of you are probably right! Maybe I should just keep the mark and save cash to afford a used wizard when the time is right...
