Just wondering what eveyones take is on ASH for a body wood, I've seen some ASH strats, and alot of Basses with ash bodies. I've got some beautiful ash just sitting around, and was thinking about sending it to Brent to have another Juggernaut made with it.

Thoughts?

Nevermind..... I'm gonna use it for a Bass build.

I'll find some nice mahogany for this build. :D

The Framus 7 string I had was made of Swamp Ash and had a Duncan JB7 in the bridge. To be honest it sounded a lot like mahogany to me, but the ovangkol neck could have been a factor as well.

Ash has a snap to it that mahagony does not have, more string definition as well.

Swamp ash is perferred imo....think strat type tone.

Well what I was thinking was:

Ash body
1/8-1/4" maple top (for looks mostly)
Flame Maple neck
Maple fretboard

Floyd
2 hum
SS frets (24)

I have two ash and two mahogany/maple strats
mahogany has a rounder sound, as said earlier, the ash has a snap to it that you dont get with mahogany.
unless you want a REALLY bright, sharp attacking guitar, I wouldnt cap an ash body with maple. jmo

Which kind of ash? Hard or swamp?

Swamp Ash, as it's the light one with good tone. Hard ash will make the tone too bright, and also give you a guitar heavier than an early 80's Les Paul.

Another wood you should consider for versatile tonality is Alder. It's a bit brighter sounding than mahogany, but not as bright as swamp ash, or even maple.

Walnut is also a good choice, it's sorta in the middle between alder and mahogany IMO. It has the thick tone of mahogany with the crisper attack of alder.

I have an ash Jackson dinky DR2

swamp body, maple neck, ebony fretboard.

has a bareknuckle nailbomb in the bridge, and has 010 - 060 strings on it, tuned to drop C...

Extreme clarity of notes for a low and fat tuning/setup

Ash tends to have a lot of highs and lows and scooped mids. Mahogany and Alder tend to be more mid focused.
