Opinions on the Peavey 5134+

From the sound clips I've heard, they seam to kick ass for the price. So what's the verdict on these?

Yep. I liked it wayyyy better than any 5150/6505 I've had. I've owned two of them but I always off them because they say Peavey and I'm a corksniffer I guess . Definitely in my top 5 or 6 favorite amps and I've had most of them.

I got rid of the one I had too but it was because it didn't have the note definition that my other amps had. I hope that makes sense

Are you talking about the 5150/6505 or the 6534+?

Played one yesterday. Had a nasally, cocked wah almost, sound to the mids that I wasn't digging at all. If you think it's going to be this hot rod Marshall killer because of the el34's I wouldn't bank on it.

Playing with the preamp tubes did wonders for that. Mine were stock with all JJ pre's (not my favorite) and Ruby BHT power and it was a pretty boomy and not very articulate compared to my more expensive amps. When I was done messing around I had mine sounding VERY nice. It still had that Peavey "fizz" on top which some dudes can't stand but that is their signature sound IMO.

As for the mids, they need to be set at like 2-4 or the lead channel got pretty nasally to my ears.

It's not for everyone but if you dig the original, the 6534+ is a HUGE improvement to my ears. I a/b'ed them back and forth at my house for hours and I couldn't even stand playing the 6505 after playing the 6534+ with the same cab/same guitar. It's just a real rich sounding amp at a killer price compared to what else is out there and the crazy prices on some amps. I've owned $3000+ amps that I didn't like as well as the 6534+ but I won't name them because I don't want to start a case of butthurt with anyone.

i prefer the originals with 6L6's, el34's cranked vs 6L6's, its always better to have a high headroom tube that wont add its own distortion when shit tons of preamp gain are involved. low preamp gain mixed with EL34's sounds great, but a EL34's in a 5150 circuit with 6 preamp stages of gain? no thanks.
