Hi,

I need your opinions for the above subject -

I own a twin jet and while I do like it allot, I miss a good clean channel more then ever.

I do live in Israel and don't have too many good options and debating between these two:

1. Sending it to bogner for a mod - appearantly they'll mod the 1st channel to be like the rev blue clean channel.
2. Buying an old Racktifier a friend of mine sells, which I feel has a nice overall clean and I like allot
the drive sounds from it - another plus is my band has a european tour this year and I thought that if I'm buying a rack bag for the racktifier I could actually bring it with me to the tour.

Your thoughts?

I've never heard of a Racktifier. I love, and have to have, a great clean channel first and foremost on any channel switching amp. That's one of the reason the Bogner Shiva and the 20th Shiva were always my main playing amps. Recently I was fortunate enough to get one of the Rev Blue Ubers from the Coheed and Cambria gang. I was taken aback on how GOOD the clean was on the Rev Blue. I was not expecting that. really nice , full and rounded cleans that can also chime when tweaked.

That said, if it were me, I'd sell my TJ and get a rev blue if that's the clean you are going for. Or just buy and old Fender or single clean channel amp and use an amp switcher. I use an amp switcvher with my Uber and Shiva and I'ts like the perfect 4 channel amp PLUS I can run them together and it's massive ;)

Shipping the TJ to bogner, then paying them to mod... just seems too much coin for what you want.

Well, bogner will help me with the mod financially wise(since I live far away and bought it directly from them), shipping back and forth would be 500$.
I just don't feel like lagging with 2 amps everywhere, it's already a pain in the ass to do so with a single head.
I like TJ's drive channel allot, not sure I want blue rev instead.

The older Rackto's tended you have a very uninspiring clean channel, however like all the early 2 channel recto's, it's lead channel blows away all the newer rectifiers.

Ultimately, the choice is yours. I've never played a Tj, however it's a choice between their lead channel's, since both their cleans are reportedly somewhat lacklustre.

I wish I could add a third channel.. damn it..
On the Tj?

What's your definition of a good clean?
A lot of metal guitarists I know consider a good clean one to be breakup and grit free. Truth be told, you can get that on any amp. Even my Krank Rev+ on the dirty channel (aggressive metal sound), by lowering my guitar volume and the coil tap is perfectly 'clean'.

My definition, however, is something with a lot of headroom, sparkly and dynamic, and for that my friend, the amp is majorly responsible for.

Either amp you've brought forth is an excellent bit of kit, and there are many other great ones too. If I were you i'd select whichever you prefer the voicing of, and then maybe using a chorus, reverb, eq and various other pedals to dress up slightly the clean tone. That is, if you decide not to get the gain taper mod for the Tj.

My TJ has the gain taper mod, but -

1. I'm playing with humbuckers.
2. The channel's voicing just doesn't have a dedicated clean channel tonality, whatever you do with it.

The mod I'm talking about is making CH 1 to be the rev blue clean channel.
And my definition for a good clean tone is like yours, I don't feel TJ produces that.

$500 ? I'm a bogner nut and no way I'd pay that much for shipping back and forth even if the mod was free..... If you aren't completely happy with the amp I'd sell it and move on to something that better fits your needs.

Just one mans opinion!

Then f*ck the clean and keep it. Find a workaround.

Just saying.

I'm not sure if the tj allows it, but you could plug into the effects return with an eq pedal for your cleans. It's not ideal but it used to work for my mate with a 5150.

Keep us posted.

Well I've got some sweet deal going on! I'm trading my PRS for a mint Herbert!
Planning to keep both amps. Will post when it's here (-:

Hmmm, here's something to consider with the old Rectos -- the Orange High Gain channel KILLS for that juicy fat dirty tone, but unfortunately that leaves you only the Red channel left, and you can't really set up the Red for clean. That's the predicament I'm in these days with my Recto. I love the Orange Hi gain so much, but I wish I could use the other channel for clean.
