This beast of a case has seen many miles from the previous owner. Aside from the laminate it’s a really solid case. Wondering if there is a finish such as plastidip, flex seal or other that I can apply once I scrape and sand the wood? Or I could go full on colored duct tape and embrace the hideousness or leave it as is.

Do you have a rivet gun? If so drill the old ones out strip the panels clean, put tolex, and re-rivet.

I have a rivet gun if you need.

It you do not want to use tolex, I would get a quart of rustoleum, use a dense roller to roll it on. I've rolled rusto on to bare MDF, and its really tough.

Scrape off what will come off and use "truck bed liner."

Here's a video showing how tough it is -

Inside you can replace the foam.
outside you're just screwed.
Paint it black.

People pay extra for that these days. Just tell everyone it was reliced by MJT.

I’ve had bed liner coated cabinets and they certainly don’t stand up to wear and tear any more than tolex. The problem is that wood is soft and indents, causing the bed liner to chip away rather than tear like tolex. It’ll show much worse on edges and corners, that video purposefully avoids hitting those areas. I wouldn’t suggest using this on anything wood.

If you are willing to spend the time drilling out all the rivets, you can buy sheets of heavy duty textured plastic (PVC? ABS?) that's about 1/16" or 1/32" thick and close to indestructible.

Yeah, leave it. Like a truck stop hooker with some miles on her,her looks tells the story. But they often need a douche,so clean up her insides before putting your gear in there.
