Just picked up a Rocker 15 I'm ultimately going to gift to my cousin and it's got a nice core tone in there, but needs a little love getting the most out of it I can tell.
Right off the bat, the VOTW speaker is shrill and muddy, plug into 4x12 loaded with Vet30s and ET65 and improved immeasurably although 4x12 is kinda cheating I know. I have a Mojotone Anthem in there currently and it's a huge improvement, but being American voiced doesn't quite do the Orange voicing justice so I'm already planning on a Celestion G10 Vintage as it has a huge magnet and seems to be the beefiest 10" one can get that will fit the amp.
Other than the speaker, have there been any meaningful nip/tuck mods to this circuit? I presume it is similar to the Rocker 30, 32 and of course Rockerverb 50 and 100, but is there an accurate schematic on this out there?
I feel like the Natural Channel could use a bright cap in the order of like 150pf to 200pf to open it up at lower volumes a bit, expect with Humbuckers.
I have a Micro Dark I modded successfully (a few of them, actually) and you have to remove it in a correct fashion to get the board to free up but its' very doable. Added some bright caps, peaker caps over 470k grid resistor and reduced the coupling cap from .068 to .047 and it still sounds like an Orange but with some of the fat and wool trimmed off. The stock circuit was very scooped and bassy, moreso than their other offerings.
I feel like I want to try the same to this Rocker 15. Is the PCB on the Rocker series serviceable? Any pitfalls to look out for?
