Ordered a FM3

I decided to go ahead and order the Fm3 mk1. I never run dual amp rigs so that limitation wasn't a factor. The 10% extra dsp wasn't really a factor as well since I don't really ever use a ton of effects. I think my main goal was to use it instead of buying a ton of plug-ins for my computer as well as possibly running it with a power amp or as an effects processor for my tube amps.

Ive owned a Kemper, 2 HX stomps, and a QC but this is my first fractal product. Kinda was back and forth with "should I get mark 1 or mark 2". Since the mk1 was 200 cheaper I figured I would go with it. I've used the HX stomp and never ran out of dsp unless I used the detune. Crossing my fingers on this.

I gig mine all the time in a cover band. I use about a dozen presets. Never run into CPU issues. Unless your into big crazy reverbs and don't need 12 effects at once cpu is not a problem it's great.

That's kinda my thoughts. Maybe if I was some praise and worship guy then maybe. I got on fine with the HX Stomp so I'm assuming this is going to be similar

I generally like ultra res cab IRs and ultra high quality Reverb. Doing this leaves little room for much else. Usually just a Chorus and Delay. Other than that I generally dont have an issue either.

Hell, live-I'm lucky if I can be heard in the mix at all. Nobody is going to hear a difference between ultra quality reverb and normal reverb :)

Great choice, IMO. Enjoy!

FWIW, I rarely use reverb, I find it washes the guitar out in the mix/live; I prefer my dirty rhythm tones dry, though I may use a ducking delay; I have lead tones with various levels of effects / types of effects.

My clean tones usually have chorus, or layered parallel delays for a similar effect (Allan Holdsworth used this technique).

I wouldn't push an Axe-FX III Turbo anywhere close to it's max, but it's at the top of my GAS list; practically speaking, the FM9 would allow me to do everything I want/need with more than enough extra.

Cheers!

One of the biggest things I was excited about to get an AxeFX was running dual amps, but I have exactly 1 preset that utilizes 2 at the same time. There’s some cool stuff that can be done with a clean and a distorted amp but outside of that, I’d rather just use a different speaker cab/IR to get a different sound out of an amp than 2 amps.

Cliff‘s been doing some awesome shit with the new reverb algorithm, posted a clip yesterday of a single effects block that has reverb, delay and pitch in it and demo’d it with “Another Brick”. If he can port that and the seamless switching to the FM3 it’ll be one seriously powerful little fucker. More than it already is a seriously powerful little fucker.

I should have it Tuesday. I have my H90 for sale now. I was hoping to sell it and grab another KSR PA50 but now I'm considering running it with the FM3. Might be Overkill for me.

I mentioned in the other thread I have both FM3 and FM9. I dont use the dual amps, I messed with it a little bit but didnt find much of a benefit for me. Im using my FM3 mono through a KSR power amp which is also mono. It could be cool in stereo situations but it's really not a make or break decisions in my opinion. The FM3 is incredible and I have the 1st version. The only limiting factor for me with that unit is having three buttons. If you need to get to alot of sounds very quickly the FM9 is a better option. Otherwise I dont use tons of effects, I will have an amp with an overdrive, reverb , delay, and an eq. Even with all that I dont run into any trouble of getting close to max dsp. I could still add a couple more effects in a patch and be fine.

The FM3 is a killer little unit. I can get by with a patch with just AMP-CAB-DELAY-REVERB and still have processing power left over.

Yeah I'm pretty basic too with patches. I tend to approach digital signal chains like I do analog. I want to get 95% of my sound from guitar amp and cab.

It's a cool piece of gear, I started with an fm3 before eventually upgrading to an axe 3. Congrats.
