Hey there... i been contemplating on a custom Jackson soloist built but these days things at Jackson arent just custom shop ... i heard the new Custom shop now are the custom select guitars which no masterbuilder involves which it came with a cert , unlike the past where CS only has a COA and starting a alpha J instead of U....

Any jackson expert could verify this?

I have an early masterbuilt but it never came with paperwork as described. I have a few other custom shop king Vs and the J serial designation is on all of them. Hope this helps.

As tempting as it is to spec your own build I would advise against it. The ebony is crap, it's dyed. I assume you would want ebony on a soloist is why I say that. Imo I would find an old one.

You cannot order a Masterbuilt Jackson. So your options are limited to what they're willing to do with the "custom select" program. I don't know what the wait is. The options are fairly limited.

Yup i noted of these... i just filled up the specs sheet and have Nick from axepalace to send it down...

Seems like they offered a 0.830 1st fret thicker neck profile now... but thing is we cant specify the intensity of the top we wanted ie if ya gonna go with flame maple or quilted...

I just have no idea how the Jackson custom shop runs... it seems like the CS are the same guys who builted the old usa selected series ?

Have heard of the dyed ebonies long ago... but i did acquired two well built pieces of 30th anniversary soloist prototype and it does shows streaks of brown... which i guess its as natural as it is on the ebony grade... yup if ya on Jackson ya gonna get the ebony...

You’ll get a cert saying it’s a custom select from the Jackson USA shop. You can’t get a masterbuild unless you’re an artist, or occasionally a shop will do a run of like 5 or so and you have to jump on it then, and that’s if it’s even a guitar you’re into. That and a 3 year wait are unfortunately the way things are now with Jackson. Unfortunately with the way things have gone the past few years with them I will not buy a new Jackson and only used.

Custom selects are still great builds but at 6 grand and a 3 year wait I should be able to get exactly what I want and not worry about fuck ups.

New builds I’d seek out smaller proven guys like sully guitars, or Marc chicoine.

I would recommend Schecter for a ground-up custom order. I ordered a pair of completely custom guitars a few years ago (8-string Telecasters with Floyd Rose) and wanted several things they'd never done before. Instead of push back, they just asked some follow up questions for clarification and absolutely nailed it. The guitars were flawless in every way and delivered in about 18 months I think?

They'll do anything you want as long as it doesn't infringe someone else's trademarks etc.

And you can order through a dealer like Drum City Guitarland, so this is not some small shop direct where the guy can evaporate with your money. They are legit.

Interesting never thought of schecter for that because I just don’t like the overall look of their guitars. Just for a metal guitar the headstock and such is not for me. But if they’d deviate from that I may consider.

Will do a custom select anyway... always wanted an inverse headstock, inverse inlay in abalone shell inlays, nice 3D quilted top with matching headstock in trans chlorine lol....
