Played my buddy's new Hype 3.
No pics or clips, yet.

Specs: satin finished mahogany body with polished flame maple drop top and matching headstock, satin finished 5pc slim (.74-.827") D shaped maple/wenge neck with flat radius (16"?), multiscale (25.5-27.8), ebony fretboard, ss jumbo fanned frets, locking tuners (gotoh or hipshot, like Suhr/Anderson), hot A5 neck/cermaic bridge 4 conductor pups, 3 way switch volume and push/pull for single coil tone controls...
Looks like this:

Initial impression:
Niiiice.
Thin neck (like Ibanez Wizard, with more shoulder), flat radius with minimal relief and medium low string height is EZ to play, no buzzing, barely notice fanned frets. Fretting hand hits true, and easier than most of my other guitars. Rivals my buddy's Anderson Icon, which is possibly the best playing guitar I've handled.
The extended scale on bass strings makes for splendid chuggability. 9s in Drop C# has zero floppiness, sharp pick response.
Superb clarity. All the gain, clean, volume rolled back, plethora of effects...doesn't matter. Rings like a bell. The sound is quite balanced, like a basswood Ibanez RG. No mid pokiness or murkiness here.
The sound is also open, resonates, not choked like a lot of PRS type guitars with all that finish. It breathes.
Super comfortable, light weight <7 lbs, thin body (like Ibanez S series or SG) with angled cutouts makes it a joy to cradle, fitting like a glove against the body, standing or sitting.
The playability, clarity and comfort are reminiscent of top tier Strandberg, without the silly triangle neck shape and missing headstock. Speaking of the headstock, I imagine the harpoon shape is a love hate thing. I dig it.

Modern vibe, with a classic touch, is how I'd describe it.
It's like they took the best parts of Strandberg and Ibanez shreddrers, and mixed in some some cool new features. I could thrash, djent, shred, fingerpick crystalline apreggios, and also pull off surprisingly convincing classic rock riffs.

I spent over an hour geeking out, reaching for and nailing things I can’t do on other guitars, while my buddy dozed on the couch in a food coma.
It inspires awesomeness.

Naturally, I want one. But, the Hype 3 prototypes are sold out. I'd have to put down a deposit and wait 3+ months to grab a Hype 3.
However, they have a Hype 1 prototype in stock. The lower tier Hype 1 has an alder body, rock maple neck (no wenge), and A2 neck/A5 bridge pups that are more EVH than LOG.
I assume the playability is the same.
I wonder how the sound differs, and if I would be as smitten with the Hype 1 vs Hype 3.
I definitely prefer the looks of 3. Easily remedied with some strategically placed stickers. The sound is what I'm most concerned about. It's not like I could just slap some different pickups in there, since they have angled baseplates to match the multiscale.
What do y'all think?

You won't get any arguments from me. I love my Ormsby and my past ones. They sell their pickups direct, so you can swap them or have them swapped to whichever you want before they ship. Not too expensive, iirc. Also, you can swap the baseplate with most other open coil pickups. Ormsby is one of the few modern style that QC every import guitar in house and doesn't sell B stock guitars. It does seem that you pay for this and the "hype" tax, though.

I have an Australian Ormsby that I love- two complaints about the brand as a whole-
1. Their stock pickups aren’t very good at all
2. The multiscales on their multiscale are too steep- 25.5-27.8 is just not comfortable- there’s a reason most brands do less steep fans

I'd like to be able to easily swap ups.
I actually appreciate the multiscale, quite a bit. It felt really good.

Never owned one but I always wanted to get a seven string from them. Only thing holding me back is the aggressive scale length on them. Not knocking them at all but if they made a 25.5 to 26.5 scale that would interest me! I only tune my 7's to A standard the lowest and the 27.8 scale just seems overkill to me. BTW that is a sick looking guitar!

My buddy, since getting the Ormsby, plans to flip his Anderson Angel 7 string. It's a stupid good player. Multiscale unnecessary. All black, hard tail, mint. $3500.
I'm torn between the Ormsby and Andy, tbh.
Says a lot about the Ormsby.

Which do you currently have?

Just looked at the site. "The One" model in a 7 seems interesting! 25.5 to 26.2 scale! I like Floyds and active pickups as well! Sorry to derail but how long does it usually take to get one if you pre-order one? I would assume months if not close to a year??

For the Aussy made guitars, I've read that a pre-order would be included in the next batch, and would take around 3 months to fulfill.

Currently the Metal X 7 string multiscale. Had one of the first hypes and a Goliath both 8 string multiscales and my daughter has a Rusty Cooley signature. All awesome. Another that I would recommend if you're into the Hype 6 MS, is a Legator Ninja N6FSS. Your local guitar center may have one on hand to check out. They can be a little bit less QC than an Ormsby on average, but the good ones are on par. They're about half the price and made in the same factory (unless you're looking at an Australian built Ormsby of course.)

Currently have 2 Dino Cazares DC GTR Demanufacture limited editions and they've become my main guitars, I love everything about them and they gave my Schecter Banshee Mach 7 and Schecter Platinum 7 the boot. Still holding onto my LTD H1007s though.

I have one of these in dead red, incredible guitar, my #1. No complaints here sounds and plays with the best 👍. I also have a 7 string SX Joe Haley that’s equally as good
