I've heard that Samsung is the way to go but I just wanted to see what some of you guys thought. I found this one for $880 and it seems pretty sweet.

There's also a 720p version of that one for only $680. Is the 1080p version going to look that much better? Are there other brands I should be looking into as well? I'm mainly going to be using it for gaming (Xbox 360 & PS3) and just watching TV shows. I rarely ever watch DVD's or Blu-ray movies.

Sony Bravia L series 720p for about $690. I don't think on a 32" you'll see a huge difference between 720 and 1080. MAYBE, if you're doing a ton of gaming with a 360 or PS3, but even then I'm not sure. I looked at tons of 32" LCD's over the course of a week for my bedroom. The Samsung 720 at the $700 price didn't compare to the Sony when it came to depth of colors and contrast. When seeing ocean waves and stuff, you see alot of darks with different shading and then the white caps. The Sony was easily the clearest picture with the best color differential.

And I am a HUGE Samsung fan. I've got a Samsung 42" plasma in my living room that I really love. So I wanted to like the Samsung LCD more. But there was just no comparison IMO. FWIW, I saw the same difference between those TV at two different stores, so I don't think it was a fluke or something with connections or anything.

Best bang for the buck IMO. Sony and Samsung, I believe, are very comparable as far as quality/parts. Oh, Walmart sells it for $686, so if you buy it from a store(not online) get em to knock $14 off!

Well that would be sweet if I only had to spend $700 instead of close to $900. I'll have to go check them out in person at Walmart or Best Buy. Hopefully they have the Sony one you mentioned.

Best Buy is usually a better place to check them out at since they're typically 3 high on the wall there. You can see alot more in one shot there. The Walmart by me has like 2 racks on different wall, with different stuff on the TV's between the 2 walls which was annoying trying to compare.

Buy what looks best to you though cause its you watching the thing everyday. I almost approached the TV thing like I do with gear. I probably spent several hours over the course of a week trying to figure out what looked best.

You can look at the difference between the 1080 and 720 too. I didn't compare that much just because I didn't wanna spent over $700.

I just got the Samsung LA450 and i will have to agree that at this size the 1080p isnt worth the extra money. That being said the tv is fucking sweet looking.

i always heard to go 1080 on the larger tv's-720 is all you need on 42" or less.

Don't buy 720. Pretty soon that will be obsolete
the cable companies in my area don't even broadcast in 1080. Hell, the HD cable boxes still don't even have HDMI jacks in them. I switched to satallite, but still.

At the size we're talking, the difference isn't worth the money in what I've seen.

Do you know what the differences are between all the sony series, L, M, S, X etc. I've been looking at tv's and I'm kinda confused

1080p 42" and below is only really going to be helpful for gaming and using it as a computer monitor (for text ect.). 720p is fine for a 32" the pixels are small enough that there will almost no difference to your eyes. Cable companies HD signals are mostly 720p upconverted to 1080i. Only a few stations have content that is origianlly 1080p at this point. Samsung and Sony as has been said is the way to go as both are very comparable in both picture and quality, (Sony gets screens from Samsung) and it really comes down a personal preference. Samsung will if set up right tend to have a little deeper blacks and little more vibrant colors (if not a little too bright a lot of the time) where as Sony does a better job filtering the picture and getting rid of background noises from your cable feed ect. Either one would be a good buy. Sony's in that price range would be the L, M, and S series typically. Samsung would be 3 and 4 series of which there are several variations typically distinguished by a difference in either inputs, contrast or case design depending.

No not really, the order you have them is how they go price wise. Looks like different video and contrast processing and the M series steps up to "theater sound". The L series is real basic in the sound department. Bass, Treble - not really any different modes or anything.

What the video and contrast stuff means in the long run is probably just cleaner picture and deeper colors as you go up in price. The REAL expensive ones that are 120Hz have the smoothest motion so you don't see digitization in fast moving scenes. But really at the 32" size that's not gonna be much of an issue...sorta like the 720/1080 thing for 32".

1080p is definitely the way to go. It looks incredible.

The thing is, you really won't notice a difference on the smaller sets (as mentioned above).

Having played games on a 32" in both 720 and 1080, I can honestly say that I can see the difference. 32" isn't that small of a tv.

I have a 32'' TV right next to me. I'd consider it fairly small, bro.

I would put it right in the middle. It isn't huge, but it is definitely bigger than the TV he is using now.

I remember coming home with my brand new Samsung 32'' and putting it in my bedroom. When my parents came to see it, they just looked at it for a second and said, "......that's it?" I used it as a computer monitor for half a year until I swapped over to my 24'' Samsung. BTW, what games were you playing at 1080p and then downsizing them to 720p? Also, what displays?

Thanks. So, does that mean that this is a better option than this since they're the same price?
