I barely notice a difference in games from 720p to 1080p on my Sharp 46", maybe my eyes just suck

I think MGS4 was only up to 720p, looked just as good as some other 1080p games I have

I remember coming home with my brand new Samsung 32'' and putting it in my bedroom. When my parents came to see it, they just looked at it for a second and said, "......that's it?" I used it as a computer monitor for half a year until I swapped over to my 24'' Samsung. BTW, what games were you playing at 1080p and then downsizing them to 720p? Also, what displays?

There were some games, forget which ones, that wouldn't run on 1080p all the time, even though it said they were 1080p compatible. But then other times they would run on 1080p. They were all on PS3 though, and they were games released early on. for that system. We never figured out why the TV would always switch it up.

Did you try adjusting the PS3's settings? Also, it sounds like it was all on the same TV. Every monitor is set for a native resolution. That's what the manufacturers base the TV around, and recommend, because it looks the best. By having a different resolution displayed, you're effectively not displaying it at its "peak." This can cause some haziness and such.

There's nothing small about a 32" TV IMO. If I used that as a computer monitor it would take up my entire desk.

Pretty much depends how far you are going to put it. Up in your face like a computer monitor, then it is f'n huge. But as a TV from a distance it looks pretty small. Are you going to be using it as a computer monitor as well?

32" seems like the perfect bedroom size screen imo, unless you have a massive bedroom

No not really, the order you have them is how they go price wise. Looks like different video and contrast processing and the M series steps up to "theater sound". The L series is real basic in the sound department. Bass, Treble - not really any different modes or anything.

What the video and contrast stuff means in the long run is probably just cleaner picture and deeper colors as you go up in price. The REAL expensive ones that are 120Hz have the smoothest motion so you don't see digitization in fast moving scenes. But really at the 32" size that's not gonna be much of an issue...sorta like the 720/1080 thing for 32".

This might help a little bit: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... productId=
Thanks. So, does that mean that this is a better option than this since they're the same price?
Well I think the 1st is better...a little tough to say 100%. It seems to have a lot more features, especially sound wise. The S also has the advanced video processor - what that really means when you're sitting in front of it watching it...I have no idea :D They both have 8ms response time which should be just fine.

The thing that kinda throws me is the contrast ratio on the L is 2000:1 and the S is 1600:1. This is only comparable with TV's of the same brand. Brand to brand it doesn't tell you much cause the measurements for it can be skewed a number of ways, I guess. I don't know the tech. aspects of it, that's just what I've been told by pretty much everyone everywhere. Since they're both Sony we can take that in to consideration. I'm not sure why the L, with less features, has the better contrast ratio. I'm also not sure how big of difference 400 makes  Some of this shit can get so confusing. I'm guessing somewhere like Best Buy would probably have both, maybe not priced the same though. Be interesting to see them side by side. I would say if you were not going to hook it up to a home theater system, the S would be the way to go if its gonna be your primary TV for regular TV, movies and vids. With my Samsung, the cinema sound thing is really pretty amazing sounding. 95% of the time I don't even waste the time of turning my home theater(only $400 total, nothing fancy) on, even for movies because it sounds so good through the TV. The only time the home theater goes on is if I really want some bass pumpin' through the sub.

I have the L series that you have in the 2nd link though and really, I couldn't be more happy with it for my bedroom TV. The picture is incredible on it. If it were my primary TV, I might have opted for the S for the extra features.

Well I was just at Best Buy checking out all the TV's they had. I looked at both the Samsung and Sony Bravia ones and they were both real nice. The one I liked the best though was the M series Bravia 32" model. I thought the picture was a good bit better than on the L series one, but it's $899 compared to $685.

Interesting.

I'm really thinking about going back out to Best Buy and getting the $900 one though. After I got home this morning I turned on my TV and it started acting up. It keeps switching channels randomly, even with the batteries taken out of the remote and when I turn it off...it keeps turning back on. :scared:

i need one for my son's room. really debating on ordering the "s" model today.

It's obviously poltergeist activity. You need some holy water and not a new tv :hys:

you dropping acid? remember.....your just tripping.

No drugs involved...but the ghost thing could be true. :scared: :D

I just went back out and bought the L series Bravia 32" for $685+ tax. I stood there for a solid 10 minutes debating which to get and decided that the other one wasn't worth the extra money. I just set it up and it looks fucking huge compared to my old 20" TV.

WHAT about the 120 vs 60 for speed?

Is that really important?

We bought a new 52" for our remodeled family room. But until we get it fully ready, we have the TV in our room. We had a 19 or 20". It looks pretty ridiculous. LOL

The TV that I just bought is 120hz and you can only tell the difference sometimes. It's actually hard to describe the difference. It's like there are more frames and it seems that things sometimes move in slow motion. To be honest, I think it's a gimmick.
