OT: Help With Mac/Windows

Hey guys. I am trying to get all of my old music/MP3s and pics from my old Windows system to my new iMac. What is the easiest way to do this? Is there an easy way to use an external drive that will work for both formats? Thanks for your help!
 
I use an external drive, all of them are windows/mac compatible!

When I try and drag files from one of my external drives (taken from my old Windows box) it won't take. In fact one of my other Seagate drives won't even pull up on my iMac. The drives are a couple of years old. Could that be the problem?
 
I bought some software at bestbuy and it came with a program and cable that allowed me to transfer stuff from my laptop that has windows to my imac. I think it is called windows to mac migration.

Same thing happened to me. Older external drive used with Windows won't even be seen by my MBP. It was first used with XP.
 
Use and external HD.

You will need to format the drive in FAT-32 (MSDOS FAT) which can be done in the disk utility program on the Mac. Just click on the drive, go to the partition tab and choose 1 partition (or however you want to do it) and then make sure the format is FAT-32. Hook it up to the windows machine and load the files on to the drive and then hook it up to the mac and drag the files off. Once youre done id probably reformat the drive back to Mac OS X extended (journaled). That should be all.

So is the Mac not seeing the HD because it was formatted NTFS?
 
NTFS: new file transfer system. is a windows thing. FAT 32 is dos based. compatible with both
 
As was said, use either FAT32, or download NTFS-3G here. You'll then be able to read/write from any NTFS-based disk.
