Hey guys,
Thinking about finally getting the tattoo I've always wanted, and need to put the final touches on it.

So, it's based around a green dragonfly, with roman numerals I II III IV, and some text.

Here's the dragonfly, (dude stole the idea from me, jackass   )

So, take that, and fit the numerals and the text into it. Except mine will be on my arm (unless someone else has a better idea).

I was thinking maybe put I and II in between the wings (left to right, one on each side) and the same in between the bottom wings and the thorax.

As far as the text goes, I'm not sure what to put there. It's between these 2:

"Wait For Me Alright, I'm Still A Boy..Down There, Where You'll Never Promise Me That.."

or.

"And I'll Have Paris In Flames"

As far as position, I was thinking under the dragonfly, but I'm not sure yet. Open to suggestions!

I have seen that very dragonfly design countless times.
Oh I know, but most aren't as detailed as that.

It's from Coheed and Cambria's album "Second Stage Turbine Blade"

It's a VERY important record for me, so I want to get it tattooed on my arm. That record changed my life, and helped me get through a really rough time.

Also, could someone spare a few moments and make me a quick mock-up? I'd like to get an estimate.

Couple things to keep in mind- Putting that piece on your arm will drop it in scale a lot (Unless youve grown a lot since ive seen you ;)) So getting the details in the wings will give you for 2 things to worry about, itll be very tight and complex and youll need a pretty decent artist to do fine, detail work and notch botch it..

and also, the problems with fine detail work, especially line work is it dosent hold up very well over time. This also needs to be considered with your lettering, if you go anything smaller than half inch your lookin at problems down the road, trust me..

Oh yeah, I've been thinking about just that all day. I want it to be somewhere I can see it any time, since it's something that's very important to me, but having sapling branches for arms makes this tough

I'm not sure where to put it yet, because I want to see it, but I want it to be big enough to have all the details well distinguishable.

Good to hear from you Pete, how's things going?

Cool idea man. I want to get the guillotine with wings someday.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the details on the scales will spell out "Jonny Toetags is gay"

and the lyrics to my song about bpete's mom.

+1 Looks pretty fruity man. I'd get some barbed wire around the base of your cock and maybe some brooootal tribal on your forearm cause it's super manly and not queer at all.

Haha, it's cool man, Jonny's my buddy

Did you see my awful painting up above?

Your painting is pretty good actually.
That insect is really bad.
Think long and hard before you get that done. I am glad i never went through with tattoo ideas i had when I was younger.

Stop screwing around!! This is the tat you really want...

i agree with the others - think long and hard before you get that tattoo

ive got 2 symbols on my back that i drew out in a signature style of japanese to mean music, so i know the excitement you are getting. but step back and look forward in your life - how it will interfere with jobs, how much fading and touchup will be required, will you have the willpower to keep touching it up, and the shop/artists you know that can get it done correctly.

also i know you are getting the tattoo because it means something to you - but if it is about an album - why not do a box around a 3D dragon fly instead to make it seem more like an album?

id also take the paris comment off or change it if it were me. you never know who or what you will run into once you get the tattoo. and tattoos are permanent. hurts like a bitch to get one - hurts even more to get one taken off.

The reason I'm getting the dragonfly alone is because it's kind of a Coheed and Cambria fan club thing. The band all has a black dragonfly on their arms, so a lot of fans have it too. I want to get a green one, ala Second Stage Turbine Blade.

Thanks for the advice, I'll take it to heart, for sure. This isn't something I'm rushing into, I've wanted to do this for 5 years now.

I'm not going to use the dragonfly on the picture above, it was just for an example. I'm friends with a great tattoo artist at Skin Graphics in Streator, IL who is going to do the artwork for me.

I still can't decide on where to get it. My shoulder/arm would be preferred because I can see it whenever I want, but I can cover it up when need be. The problem is I have twigs for arms
