Alright boys, it's that time of year again! Let the race for the world's greatest trophy begin! Here are my first round picks:

Round 1
WAS vs MTL - rooting for Montreal, but I don't think they stand a chance.
NJ vs PHI - this one is a bit tougher, but Philly backed into the playoffs so I'll take NJ
BUF vs BOS - Miller gets my vote for the Hart this year, he'll be the difference.
PIT vs OTT - Never going to root against my boys!
SJ vs COL - SJ will make it past the first round, but they'll choke yet again soon after
CHI vs NAS - Toughest pick of the first round for me, but I'll go with Chicago.
VAN vs LA - LA will put up a fight, but they don't have enough experience- the Sedins and Luongo should pull it off
PHX vs DET Easy pick here.

Hard to know who's goaltending is going to show up, bunch of these goalies have played well but haven't proven themselves yet, so the first round should be interesting!
GO SENS GO!

Miller vs. Rask will be a good fight, that's for sure! Rask has been so good this season so I think he'll play more than Thomas.

Speaking about NHL, I'm seriously considering about going to watch Minnesota vs. Carolina season opening game in Helsinki this autumn. The thing is that I'd love to see NBA, MBL and NFL games too! Not to mention Premier League football game...

I've seen way too many crazy-assed upsets to make predictions. That said if the Pens show up and play to the level they're capable of Ottawa is history :D Unfortunately there is no guarantee that's going to happen

My picks are the same as yours. I'm a Sens fan as well. I hope Kovalev being out won't hurt their chances too much.

WAS vs MTL - I can't stand the Caps, but Montreal isn't that great.
NJ vs PHI - Easiest pick for me. The Devils have Brodeur and the Flyers have Brian Boucher...uh yeah, good luck with that.
BUF vs BOS - Despite Rask having such a great year, I think they'd have a better chance with Tim Thomas.
PIT vs OTT - The Pens always dispose of the Sens quickly in the first round.
SJ vs COL - Just like last year, the Sharks aren't going anywhere. Colorado was the best team in the NHL early.
CHI vs NAS - Another easy pick. The Preds are average at best IMO.
VAN vs LA - Quick gets the best of Luongo. Fuck Sedin for winning the scoring title over Sid.
PHX vs DET - These aren't the same dominating Red Wings of old. Jimmy Howard is good, but meh. Go Coyotes.

It seems like Rask's mental side is good but the real pressure starts now so we'll see. BTW, Rask has the highest save percentage so will he automatically win Vezina trophy or is there a voting about it?

It'd be so nice to see these games on TV....

No, the Vezina is voted on so he probably won't win it. He only played like 40 games. I would imagine Brodeur, Nabakov, or Miller might get it this year. The Jennings Trophy is awarded to the goalie(s) who give up the fewest goals. Brodeur won that one already this year.

And as for watching the games, try this website.

Just go there right as the games start and you should be able to stream them. The quality isn't too great and sometimes they don't work, but they probably all will for the playoffs. I use that to watch the Rams games during NFL season since they're never on TV where I live.

Thanks, Mark!

Yeh, Rask won't get it if the winner's chosen by voting. Way too few games under his belt for this season...

Round 1
WAS vs MTL - too much for Montreal
NJ vs PHI - hard to go against Brodeur, Philly needs better goaltending
BUF vs BOS - Boston is playing inspired hockey, Miller won't be enough
PIT vs OTT - the Pens have played like crap for awhile now but Sid figures it out and I think Malkin is finally ready to join the party, defense better wake up
SJ vs COL
CHI vs NAS - I think it will be Chicago & Washington in the finals
VAN vs LA
PHX vs DET

I think the finals will be Pens against the Kings. The Pens could be fucked if they have to play NJ though. They raped us in the regular season, but they always seem to get knocked off early in recent years. I think the Pens can take the Caps in a seven game series, just like they did last year.

Pens haven't been as solid as a team as they have the past couple of years on their runs to the finals. Crosby has carried them so far, but Ottawa has had success keeping him in check in the past. Going to the finals two years in a row is a lot of hockey and it's going to catch up to them. Keep in mind Ottawa is up 2-1 in first round series with them, and the last time Alfie, who is the heart of the team, and some other guys were out a bunch of games. If Ottawa can stay out of the box and Elliot holds up his end of the deal, Pens aren't getting past the first round. Y'all won last year, so take it in stride ;)

yeah, Rask has played well this year, but I doubt he'll be nominated for the Vezina just because so many other goalies out there played more games. I have a hunch it will be Bryzgalov, Miller and Brodeur as the 3 finalists. It should go to Miller IMHO because he has played well consistently all year long.

Hope you get to catch some of them- it's frustrating when you have to deal with the time zone differences for sports. I can never watch Liverpool because the games are always 6 hours ahead- for you, the games must be starting at like 1am eh? Hope you have some good strong coffee over there for the morning after :D

I'm the same as you except for the sens/pens part.. I really hope Chicago wins the cup this year :D

Boston will beat Buffalo in 7. We're 4-2 against them this year, and while it is a new season in the playoffs, the B's are playing much better hockey in the past couple of games than they had been.
Sens will actually upset the Pens in 6.
Caps over the Habs in 5. Somewhat of a safe bet.
Philly over the Devils in 6 or 7 games. Brodeur is amazing, but I wouldn't really think of him as a clutch goalie. If the Flyers play with the tenacity that they can, this will be a very interesting matchup.

I admittedly don't follow many teams in the west. As long as the Wings (who I am completely sick of) get eliminated, I'm happy.

Stanley Cup Final that I'd actually love to see? Vancouver vs. Boston. *grin*

Likely Stanley Cup final? Philly vs. San Jose.

Some oddball predictions, but stranger things most certainly have happened.

Gonna say:

Caps in 5
Devils in 6
Sabres in 6
Pens in 7

Sharks in 5
Blackhawks in 7
Canucks in 6
Red Wings in 5

I blow at making picks, but here goes:

WAS vs MTL - The Caps have been a powerful team this year and I believe they will be able to deal with Montreal with very little trouble.
NJ vs PHI - I definitely consider the Devils to be a superior team, yet the Flyers have played them well this season. This pick is wishful thinking/token upset.
BUF vs BOS - Sabres have my pick. They have an elite goaltender in Miller and the Bruins have had trouble putting the puck in the net. A low scoring series that will come down the the net minders.
PIT vs OTT - Pens because I am a homer. I can say that I would not be surprised if they get dumped, though. Fleury has been spotty this season and several defensemen have shown themselves to be lackluster. If the passing continues to suffer at the blue line, the Pens will not make it far.
SJ vs COL - I didn't watch either team this year, so I have no commentary. I like the Sharks due to recent experience.
CHI vs NAS - Chicago has been a contender and I believe they are going to make a strong push for the Cup this year. They have too many solid players with the likes of Hossa, Toews, and Kane.
VAN vs LA - I think Luongo and the Sedins will allow the Canucks to reign over the Kings.
PHX vs DET - I see this as youth versus experience. The Coyotes have a good core of young players, but the Wings have proven veterans. I think this is going to seven, with the Red Wings going to round two.

I just can't see the Pens losing to Ottawa. The only reason they've been struggling a bit lately is because they were missing Malkin and Gonchar. The Pens are a veteran team despite how young they are. They know they need to turn it on now in the playoffs.
