Damn f'rs got somehow got me. I've owned this PC for 3+ years and never had one single solitary issue with it...until today. I've got a nasty virus that just won't go away. I ran CC Cleaner and Malware bytes and it's still here. They detected a few things but the damn thing won't go away. It's the virus that re-directs you when you try to search for something. Everytime I try to search for a fix it friggin re-directs me. I'm afraid to search for a fix on my work laptop with the fear of the sites that claim to have a fix will actually infect this computer as well...

HELP!!!!!

try adaware by lavasoft. whatever soft you wanna clean up with run the windows in safe mode.

is it browser specific?

both firefox and IE are effected...

What OS?

Try to Disable it in the startup menu... It will be there if it's active upon rebooting.

Then Restart in Safe mode (F8) when booting.... Then Do A System Restore to A Point Where you know there was the last known good Configuration.

PM me if you need and I'll give you my Number...

Roid RAGE

if by chance you CANNOT boot in safe mode (and your restore points are suddenly missing), you've got the latest version of "security toolkit". it is an absolute motherfucker and your system is hosed. go ahead and start backing everything up because the only way to rid yourself of this version is to reformat the drive.

sorry, man. this one killed me a couple of months ago and i got it off a fucking sports blog with an infected server.

The problem with these things is you never really know if you got rid of it all together or what damage it's done to some of your system files that will always affect your system and the way it performs. Best thing is to re-format and re-install windows. I've gotten so used to this that I find it much easier and takes less time than to mess around trying to fix it. Plus your system will run better with a clean install. Good luck.

Hey man, i had the same problem a couple of months ago- a fake "internet security" malware program got on my computer and was being a real bitch...I used a new program called Prevx to get rid of it, it's an online based removal tool that's always monitoring and scanning files that are active. The catch is your internet has to be working. Wasn't too expensive and haven't had problems since so I highly recommend it! The other thing you could do is do the "alt-ctrl-delete" thing and look through the "processes" tab for things that look funny, google them to see what they are, and then try to manually remove them or download files that were specifically made to remove it....hope this helps, computer problems are a pain :aww:

Cheers,

bigrig

The nasty one that is running around again is "Internet Security 2010", and Malwarebytes will remove it.

Go here and get the latest version (1.44).

Yup... "Internet Security 2010" is EXACTLY what I had at first. Malwarebytes took care of it but I just found the other searche engine virus last night.

I've used this on my kids computers that kept redirecting IE and Firefox and every search engine.

Worked great and I tried about 5 others first without complete success, Spybot, Spysweeper, Adaware, malwarebytes(older version)...
It ask you to let it check for unknown problems first and to update and then run. I ran it in safe mode after too just to be sure. I upgraded later to the full version for $9.95 to get real time protection and scheduled scanning.

I am always getting asked to check people computers it seems, so I carry a USB key with the "tool kit".

Avast anti virus (free) http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
CCleaner (free) http://www.ccleaner.com/download
SuperAntispyware (free) http://www.superantispyware.com/
Malwarebytes (free) http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Spybot Search & Destroy (free) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
Revo Uninstaller (free) http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html

There are some other goodies, but those are all free and work when updated properly.

Get a Mac. PC's are complete junk. I can't believe I ever put up with how shitty they are.

I've had mine for a year and a half and have had no problems at all. None of the issues that constantly plagued every PC I've owned in the past. Not to mention that everything about the Mac is sleeker and easier to use.

I've had both and have had just as many problems with macs as PCs. I rarely have virus issues with either. System lockups, hardware crashes, etc. I've had all of that happen to both. The virus problem isn't the computer's fault. The problem is that there are so many viruses out there written for PCs. Get a good firewall and you'll be fine.

As far as hardware, honestly I find mac hardware reliability terrible considering the price. Build yourself a quality PC using high-end parts, and it will probably outlast your mac, for the same money.

Thats my 0.02.

I am not a Mac hater or anything, but it is a naive statement to assume just because you have a Mac, you wont have problems. I find that most "PC problems" are user created.

I have several PCs and rarely have any issues that most novice users run into.

If your Mac works for you great, but it just does not for others.
