"the whole guitar hero things died in 1985"
I'm sure Activision would disagree with this moronic statement since they made about a billion dollars off this little video game franchise named "Guitar Hero".
Back then we learned to play actual instruments instead of pushing buttons like most of the kids today.
There was a time and place for shitty barre chord beating bands without any real musical talent....it was called the 90's and it's long gone too. Now there's a whole lot of terrible garbage that not only takes no talent to play, but all sounds exactly the same....like most of the current screamy down-tuned so called "Metal".
There's a reason bands sold out arena's in the 80's and now it takes 10-12 band "fests" to sell out the same amount of seats. Most current music is just plain lame, and the music industry is all but dead.
