I just saw this in another thread on TGP. Thread is here: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... 218&page=2

Here is the quote if the link does not work: "I spoke to Mike at Mesa today. I had it backwards. The ribbed cone version of the MS-12 is the earlier version and he considers it more desirable. He says it sounds very similar to an EV with a bit less highs. He considers the smooth cone version to be on the nasty side. Needless to say some people may like the smooth cone version. " -GTRJoe

Just curious which MS-12's you are had Dave, the smooth cone or the ribbed cone? I am hoping I still have pictures of the ones I sold, I thought the cones were smooth, but I can't remember.

Are you still selling a pair of MS-12's Dave?

I am thinking about starting to look for some. My halfback 412 (with both sections closed) has 2 MC90's in the top and 2 EVM-12L's in the bottom. I know you like all 4 MS-12's the best. What do you think would be best? 2 MC90/2 MS-12, 2 MS-12's/2 EVM-12Ls, or 2 MS-12's/2EVM-12Ls?

I am wondering how the EVM-12L's or MS-12s would sound with my Fender Bandmaster reverb, not sure the 212 cab could take the weight of the EVM-12L's though....

Here's a late bump but I thought I'd add some info.

I spent time playing my Mesa Thiele loaded with an EVM-12L. I then swapped it out for an MS-12 smooth cone version. To me the MS-12 does sound a little less bright but overall very close to the EVM. Both have HUGE bottom end through the Thiele. I can honestly say I think I prefer the MS-12. Not sure about the ribbed cone version smooth cone but the one I have is smooth cone and it sounds great. I bought it used and I assume it's been played on a lot. Maybe the new out of the box smooth cone versions needed some time to break in?
