I don't like labels when it comes to ideologies. People hating each other too much over labels these days.
This place is a perfect example. I was fitting right in with you guys in regards to music and gear,
yet as soon as the labels come out, we're "picking" on each other like it's 3rd grade again.

Anyway, my dad was French Canadian and couldn't speak English when he first moved to the US,
so he suffered some of the immigrant bigotry of that era when he was younger(1940s).
He was probably a fiscal republican but social democrat.
My mom never invested too much in any of it.

I'll keep having fun with the third grade shit as long as anyone else is game. It's not like you folks live
next door or anything. :thumbsup:

My problem with about 5-10 regulars (from both sides) isn't the broad generalizations, it's the lack of civil discourse. I am fine with and welcome differing opinions. But we aren't getting differing opinions on this forum most of the time. We get flat out attacks and bullying to try to prove some alphamale shit.

Some people have nothing interesting to contribute, so they just insult everyone who isn't aligned with their world view. Pair that with the extra time they have on their hands, and you get a handful of people who think their behavior is fine because it goes unchecked. And when it does rarely get checked, they turn into the whiniest babies.

All I'm trying to say, this isn't an issue of peoples' opinions. It's an issue of people being assholes at each other because they never learned how to express their opinions as adults. I totally get this behavior in a group of friends. It doesn't make sense on a forum with strangers.

I ran into a guy one time years ago, and he told me “You know what? I don’t care if you’re a republican or democrat, theres’s really only two types of people in this world. You’re either an asshole, or you’re not”. He was right.
 
I only discuss and debate this stuff in this off topic section (although there was that one thread about the Iced Earth guy). Outside of OT, I totally ignore any political leanings and treat everyone on the same level and have no issue helping or liking posts, videos, etc of people I may disagree with in OT. (y)
 
It depends. I paint with a broad brush when I'm deliberately trying to provoke; not because I don't know how to have a civil conversation.

And it's pretty easy to tell when I can have a civil conversation with someone.
