Kind of been like that since 2000 IMO. Seen every live show here in the Bay area since 91.

They sounded best with the Strategy 400 and ADA MP1 along with the MQ1 sound.

Nah, Hetfield sounded best with the Wizard on Garage Inc.

That was a very good sound that is why to this day I am looking for a Wizard cab and amp from that era.

PM 'Disfigured'. He has a Wizard half stack he may sell. British greenbacks, same amp as Hetfield used on the recording, plus its been updated from Wizard.

Thanks for the heads up but I have a Mesa and Fish I am trying to sell before I could afford the Wizard.

At first I thought this was about Papa Hett on hcaf.

And the video doesn't show Hetfield alone with the VH4 in the tuning room? I see the whole band through the whole thing.

They sound a little better than the last album. But tonewise they sounded MUCH better during the Black album, and everything before that. Crappy ever since.

Every time I play a VH4 I walk away giving less of a shit about them.

I played one once and it didn't blow me away or anything. I thought it was cool, but not $4000 worth of cool. I liked the Herbert better.

the VH4 is one of those amps that you either love or hate. Seriously. It's very uncommon for a hi-gainer to be "HEAVY" without being saturated, and the VH4 is not saturated. Most hardrock/metal guys really like saturation on their amps.

To me it's a fantastic metal/hard rock amp....but it's an even BETTER pop-rock amp

a VH4 with single coils is something to die for

I love a semi-saturated amp, but not a lot, just a touch of saturation.

well, then you "might" like the VH4. It's also a VERY tight and compressed amps with TONS of mids....that's why TO ME it's perfect with Single Coils, and I imagine low output humbuckers too.

I canunderstand now what some people say with Diezels + EMGs not gelling too well....they're both compressed. for a like gig thing where you're looking for a silent, tight, focused pickup it works very nice, and that's why I'll keep on guitar with EMGs (my Explorer) the rest will all have passives, and low output pups.
