I have a boss es 8 coming in and i understand it can route time based effects as well as other in series or parallel. Does this function work if your just using one amp in mono? I wish i had a visual on how this routing actually works...I guess i have a hard time visualizing how a delay and reverb can be separated while still going through one amp?

So with a single amp, you'd run your delay and reverb in parallel so that your delay tails don't have reverb and your reverb isn't delayed. Otherwise, if you ran them in series, the one that's first in line gets processed by the second in line (eg, if the delay is first, all the repeats get hit with reverb; and if the reverb is first, the reverberations get delayed).

The bigger issue to worry about digital effects in a parallel loop, is potential phase issues

So you can put FXs in a parallel loop (where you have a mix of the wet signal and the dry signal). But I think that's different from the parallel routing that the OP is asking about, though I could be wrong.
