PRS is adding the finishing touches to a new amp that will be a pretty big leap for them seeing as it is specifically a high-gain amplifier.

Now I can't give you any details, but I can put it into perspective. Mark Tremonti, Emil Werstler (Chimaira), Dustie Waring (Between The Buried and Me) and Clint Lowery (Sevendust) have all been using this amp live for a while and loving it. Mark even used it for a majority of his rythem and lead tones on the last European run for Alterbridge and was in love. That says a lot since his rig typically contains more amps and blends than our used gear section!

What's expensive in amps anymore? $3000? $4000? Twice that? Everything is expensive.

Interesting! But, I imagine, very expensive!?

I dont have a price yet but I think most of their amps are actually more on the reasonable side for handwired US stuff but again, that depends on what your definition of expensive is

True, it IS relative.

I can buy a used Plexi reissue for $900, send it to Dave Friedman for $600 worth of mods, and have a killer high gain monster for $1,500.

More than that is expensive, although, it wont match my Tortoise Shell '94 McCarty like a PRS amp would!

Agreed - I'm hoping the price sits nicely with people.... but would that Plexi be capable of not only the heaviest of tones but also an angelic clean that Doug Sewell is oh-so capalable of? ;)

I guess that Plexi wouldn't be made as nicely as a hand built PRS amp with two killer channels, and, definitely wouldn't have an angelic clean channel!

There's a big market for boutique higher priced amps, I'm just not part of it!

Smart. PRS guitars seem insanely popular among modern rock/metal guitarists. They'll probably eat up his amp, too. Hopefully it's nice.

I agree that the PRS amp prices seem more or less reasonable based on the market.

I assume way tighter/modern than the Blistertone? the demo of Paul playing it sounded good course that amp was 50 watts - to hang with the high gain set, gotta go big. Big trannys, lots of tubes is a good start

ETA???

Just guessing but details should officially be released soon, demos should be live for NAMM and product should be ready in early 2014 since its made at the factory.

May be pressure for endorsed artists using the guitar to use the amp.

We shall hear soon enough.

I've gotten to experience it and I promise you that is not the case haha And while I'm a huge PRS guitar user, I have never owned an amp becuase none of them did high-gain well enough for me...until now.

Also unlike most companies, PRS doesn't even require their artists to sign exclusivity contracts in any shape or form so I assure you that's not the case. That's why guys like Zach Myers can play a tele when he feels like it

I'd be very interested in playing their amps & seeing how they're designed. Amps aren't really something i'd associate with PRS.
John Suhr for example, even designs circuit boards for his amplifiers himself, so I trust him, his company, his opinion & I can justify the costs of his products.
PRS, although they make excellent guitars, do mass-produce standard instruments at custom shop prices. I'm yet to buy into PRS's pricing structure if i'm honest.
Call me cynical, but my predication is that the amp's value will likely be invested in a 'private stock'-esque wooden exterior & aesthetic beauty rather than the amp's interior design, sound & functionality.
They have some fierce competition in the high-gain amp market that's for sure.

I don't have to call you cynical.... I can just call you flat out wrong, at least in regards to what your perception of this amp is ;)

Especially since a 5150 III produced in China streets at 2k, I am willing to bet a lot of people will be more than happy with this amp and its price point but again, official details coming soon

I am very interested in learning more about this as well. Tremonti is a bad ass and if he's excited about it, then it has to be killer.

Is it safe to assume that Clint is playing one of the new metal amps (or an early prototype) in the vid for his signature SE?

I am sure these will make it to the Platinum room in downtown ATL guitar center then. I will give it a spin!

If this amp is under 3k I will be shocked! If it's not, it will have to deliver something Bogner, Diezel, Fryette, Friedman, Engl, Mesa etc are not.

I expect it to be pretty to look at, and that's about it. Just like their guitars.
