Paul Waggoner of BTBAM is one of my favourite guitarrists

On HCAF there's alot BTBAM hate but seriously... though he's not the best player in the world, his playing never ceases to inspire and amaze me because of the progressive nature of his playing and how he dabbles in jazz, prog, and even country briefly on the "Colors" album.

Yeah, I love his playing. I was blown away when I saw them live. I was in a perfect spot, small venue like 2 feet away from his feet :worship:

:P Glad someone agrees, I've seen alot of BTBAM bashing at HCAF. :) And they use my current favourite tuning, C# standard, I wish I knew more bands that played in C#. :P

I can't think of anything that doesn't get bashed on HCAF. That's all anyone does over there.

I haven't paid much attention to BTBAM for a while, but their first two albums were great IMO. Mordecai is still my favorite song of theirs. And yeah, not too many bands seem to use C#. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Dark Tranquillity for some of their old albums.

As uncool as it is... I prefer their newer albums..

Self Titled
The Silent Chorus
Alaska
Colors
The Great Misdirect

My favourite is Colors, then probably Alaska.. Mordecai is my newest favourite song aswell as Obsufcation from the new album. I just got The Great Misdirect today.. and I think it's amazing.. these guys just get more and more inventive..

Give Colors a good listen, every song on that album in my opinion is gold. I'd reccomend White Walls or Viridian or Ants Of The Sky.

Colors and Alaska are my favorites. Dont forget about Dusty Waring he is also playing this stuff with Paul and is a killer player as well.

They have some of my favorite recto tones too. Roadster and a 2 channel dual recto if I recall correctly

That's right. :) Rackmount recto and a Roadking. Actually both guitarrists have quite a modest setup for the complexity of their playing and their skill IMO.

Same for me.

I have not. He's awesome too. :P They're both awesome. I'm even more humbled by Paul Wagonner aswell because he can sing melodicly really well and he's very modest and down to earth. :)

i'm definitely a big BTBAM fan...love their style and complexity (even when they out do themselves), love their HOT recto tone, i just don't dig their overly vegan/vegetarian/peta thing they have going lol

sorry-but who is he?
He's the lead guitarist for the metal band Between the Buried and Me. And he's awesome. :D

Hehe. :P

I'm a vegetarian and believe in some of PETA's morals.. just not to the extreme extent that PETA do. :P

Rise Against are worse.

BTBAM is a great band indeed. Dustie is indeed a great player also. I really loved the Orange head Dustie had at one time, but him and I both agree that the Roadsters slay.

As for other bands that tune to C# standard. I know Glass Casket does now due to Dustie not having to get his guitars reset-up for that tuning for BTBAM, but you are right, not many bands seem to use that tuning or not many that I can recall.

I knew of Glass Casket as Dustie's side project, but I heard they're a metalcore/deathcore band.. so I'm... quite surprised they don't use a drop tuning.

What tuning were they using before? :) I'd love to see metalcore bands being forced to use standard tunings and see if they can pull off their breakdown riffs. Sorry, mini-rant.

They were in C standard, so still a standard tuning atleast. And I am with you, all of my bands material is in a Standard tuning as well bc I am just over playing in drop tunings.

I just recently saw them and unless you are a musician you will go into a coma listening to their overly complex songs its just too much for the regular metal fan and really too much period, imo. while I appriciate the musicianship and couldnt write a 10th of the riffs ,they are trying too hard??? keep it simple stupid comes to mind....

I used to be a huge fan of them, but when they started writing songs up to 10 minutes long it got ridiculously stupid and boring.

I'm the opposite, I like their longer songs, you have to really get into them to not find it boring.

I find mathcore boring as fuck! but then again I find metalcore and hardcore boring as fuck and I like Rush and BTBAM and Sikth so it may be the core half?
