So interested party sends multiple emails regarding my amp for sale. Indicates he's seen it on craigslist (which I have it posted for local sale). Person asks if I'd be willing to ship. We work out the cost and he sends email that he sent funds. As usual I receive paypal email however it says this:

Dear Customer,
You received a payment of $2900.00 USD from (XXX.XXXX.com)

This transaction payment has been deducted from the buyer's account and "APPROVED" but not credited into your account, Reason for both buyer’s and seller’s safety policy. We put this transaction to your account on “HOLD” until the item is shipped out to the buyer and the shipment reference/tracking number is sent to us for shipment verification, so as to secure both the buyer and the seller. Check payment details below and follow the instructions for your account to be credited.

(FYI- I put the X's to conceal party's email)

-I never received an email like this from Paypal before and I checked my account and nothing indicated a "Hold" or any information on this transaction, so I called them- PayPal stated they never sent this email!!!

It's pretty shady out there trying to buy and sell gear. Really sucks for us guys that don't have surplus of funds and have to sell equipment in order to buy equipment.

I had something like that happen last year. I thought he was legit at first but then realized it was bogus so I kept fucking with the guy.

It looks like it's sent from PayPal and shows but if you click "show details" it's clearly not.

Wow. Fucking asshole thieves.

I had an almost exact experience almost a year ago I think. Seemed like a legit buyer but I was very suspicious. Soon after I got the same exact email from Paypal. I knew right off it was a scam and emailed the person telling them to go you know where and called them a POS scammer and goodbye.
You can easily smell this kind of shit. If it seems a little off, you know it's a scammer. I could tell right away but gave the person the benefit of the doubt.

what an asshole!!! its crazy, musicians robbing musicians!!

The wife n I get the occasional fake Apple email note on new charges/purchase, and to follow this link to cancel. Of course, the bad english gives them away every time.

I found this deadbeat! His name is Mohammad Lickaman and he's located in Nigeria. Here's a recent shot of his mug.

Word around town is he's something.

^^^
I get tons of those Apple scammer emails!!! Like 2-3 a week.

I know this is a generalization; but, I have had so many bad experiences, and account breaches, that I quit using it entirely. I only use my wifes paypal for this site, or pay by card to someone else's paypal. same with ebay. been lucky with reverb...so far.

Wow, that one actually looks legit with the logo and everything.

I haven't used them much lately but I do remember back in the day they would hold the funds until buyer rcvd the item.

From a recent item I sold that was not the case. Was in my account before I even shipped.

The email address and grammar/word choice in the body should be giveaways. Neither are typical of paypal emails and the word choice in the body is not indicative of a professionally crafted service email. But its still good enough to fool a lot of people.
