PC Sound systems for listening to music

What are some good powerful crystal clear systems you know? This is not for recording/games or anything. Plain music listening.

Let's put $750 limit I guess. Is that a lot? I have NO idea about pc music systems or whatnot.
 
PC multimedia speakers suck ass. Don't even mess with that junk if you ask me. Just use a stereo with a line-in and normal speakers. I personally use KRK Rokit RP8 and 5's plus the S10 sub. They sound pretty flat like normal monitor speakers so I use DFX which is a DSP plugin for winamp and other programs, it will add some 'space' and hype to the highs and lows like normal music speakers do. Works for me!

Does it sound good as a car system? I mean I really have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about cause I've always used some stupid 2+1 cambridge system. It sounds decent but you don't get good punch out of em even if the sub is decent. I dunno... So yeah maybe I'll go non-multi media speakers!
 
I run my sound card into a input of my stereo and use that when i want hi fi stereo.....
else is just use my krk rokit 5's as pc speakers.

Wouldn't that first option be running like 2 poweramps (or preamps?) together?

KRK's sound any good?

I mean... monitors are nice to record but I don't think they are great for listening to music that's already been mixed / mastered. For all I know, good monitors just make the mix sound real colorless and "dead". That's what they are supposed to do as far as I know. Right?

No...the sound card is just an interface....not a pre amp or power amp.

The KRK's ok.
Music sounds good thru reference monitors. You get to hear the songs they way they were meant to be heard.
It doesnt make it sound colorless or dead....just makes it sound exactly the way it was meant to sound.
I actually prefer the sound of my home and auto stereo though....
with those speakers and the eq settings I have it more dialed in to my personal preference.
 
I just run my computer into my yamaha receiver, into some Klipsch KG3.5's and KG1's. Works great, my wife's computer is hooked up to it as well, so if she wants sound she just switches the input.

I do like those Klipsch Promedia speakers....
 
It seems what I want is kinda like a powerful home stereo hooked up to my computer.
