switched the ethos out for the plexitone, on the drive channel @ noon with boost on, hotplate -4, power dampening at 25% drop, treble volume at 4.5, bass volume at 1

in the room it is very bright, but to the mic it's more marshally, and overall it's starting to sound bigger in the mix to me.

That sounds a lot better. Nice and straty and it's not too bright. Funny how the mic picks up things, it always seems to darken things a bit....and there's a million different places on a speaker to place a mic which all sound different.

Has to be a recording lost in translation thing as I am sure you are hearing the goods in the room. The levels are higher, some clipping, and I am starting to hear some more organinic. Maybe I am looking for something you are not trying to capture? RVS is another guy that captures this amp ready for meltdown tone but still maintaining some form of character, his Peters amp he has has some of the best close to meltdown tone on the forums imo.

Here is RVS playing with his Peters,

Screw the hood and drag that sucker into the garage and let loose the hounds of hell!

its funny i was thinking RVS too as another cat here that gets the kind of tone i gravitate toward as well.
the last clip was PM volumes on 2, -12 hotplate, and i moved the dry cab mic to the scumback from the gh30

i'm creeping up the ladder-next stop vol on 3/-8 :D

update:

ok so i redid the last recording once more without the limiter, and tried to match more of what i was hearing in the room by adding about 3db of gain on the gtr tracks in the 3-5k zone to lift the recording chain blanket :D

oh man, I like this one the best - better than the plexitone clip below. What would be really cool is the plexitone for rhythm and the ethos for lead - I think that would give a good separation between the lead and rhythm. Fun clip man, always nice to hear you rockin' out!

no doubt-
i always tend to move a mic closer to the cone live, just for the cut.

the dry mic was placed based on how it sounded on headphones in all these clips, but i tell you i have a hard time thinking anyone would like how bright it was in the room!

thanks d
and if i had the extra loop and space on the pedalboard i'd have the plexitone for those heavier VH rock tone moments!

I agree with the leads, I liked the ethos better and the more raw Plexitone for ryhthms.

Killer playing Pat

live i'm running the arc furnace od for most rhythm chores these days. it is more srv meets vox low/mid gain sounds, so i can roll off to clean up or bang out a decent break up that's more percussive classic rock.

and leads are either the arc furnace + tc flashback with big long ep-3 tape delay toneprint for mellower tempos, or ethos for more fullness and sustain and faster touch up high, set more like a cross between dumble and mesa mark II tones.
