Any body know if the 6505 plus has a serial or parallel effects loop? Also any body know of any mods for the effects loop? I'm just asking because even if I use a noise gate to gate the signal in the effects loop I can still hear speaker hiss in the back ground.. I have always preferred an in line loop as opposed to a parallel loop because you can kill all of the hiss in between crunchy riffs.. Any help would be great.. Thanks..

it must be different than the 5150. when i gate the loop of my sig head, all the noise goes away.,

It's series. I own a 5150 II (same circuit as your 6505+)

I use a boss NS-2 and at post gain at 1, or 2 (practice level) wih the threshhold on 1/2 o clock it's noise free.

What are you using as a gate? If you're maxing your gate's threshhold and still getting noise then you must be running a SHITLOAD of gain. Higher volumes generally require a stronger gate setting.

What's your pre and post gain at? are you boosting it? is there anything in your loop after the gate?

Tawlks.

It's serial. I have a 5150 and a 5150 combo. Basically the same amps and mine are series. What kind of Noise Suppresor are you using? Is it last in the chain? Using any boosts? How high is your gain set on the amp?

I usually keep the pre gain all the way up and the post at about 3, maybe 4 at the most.. I am using a ns2 in the front and I am using my replifex with hush in the effects loop...

Yeah, I like a lot of gain. Anyway, I think there is something wrong with effects loop.. When you guys turn the volume all the way down on your head, I mean the distortion gain all the way up but the output volume down with out anything in the effects loop do you still get sound? Every amp I have ever owned when you turn the volume down the sound goes away.. On my amp it gets a low muted sounding volume but I can still hear myself playing through the amp.. That just seems weird to me.. I mean I've been playing for like 25 years and owned all kinds of amps and never had one do that..

wow, i run my 5150 @ 4(11:00) on the pre gain and thats a good amount of gain. 5 or 6 would be over the top metal in my book.

Well considering I play over the top metal and loud, this is not an extreme amount of gain for me.. I am not a classic rock guy or I would be playing a Marshall. Besides I was just asking a question to get some advice or help if anyone else noticed a similar problem with their amps...

No one can talk shit about me keeping the gain on 7 anymore

I know what you mean about turning the post volume down, and having 2 cables in the loop connecting to nothing, but still getting a weird, low volume sound. I asked about this years ago, and it seems normal. My original 5150 does this.

The loop is series though. I have never had a problem with something working in the loop. I generally use a gate in front of the amp, but I have tried in the loop with no problems.

Oh, and let me say, if you are obsessed with it being perfectly quiet, then you should invest in 2 ISP Decimators. Run one before the amp, and one in the loop.

"HOW TO: TEST YOUR AMP'S LOOP TO SEE IF IT'S TRULY SERIAL"
"Grab a muting guitar tuner pedal. Be sure that it really mutes. If you don't have one, borrow one from a friend. These things are far too common for you to need to purchase one special just for this test.
1) Set the amp up the way you like to use it with just the amp and your guitar.
2) Put the amp on standby
3) Use a short patch cable to connect the amp‟s FX loop send to the input on the tuner pedal
4) Use another short patch cable to connect the output of the tuner pedal to the amp's FX loop return.
5) Take the amp off standby
6) Play with the tuner unmuted and adjust levels so they sound right.
7) Turn the amp main volume up fairly loud. (Normal playing level is fine. Don‟t kill your ears or infuriate your family/neighbors/etc.)
8) Now mute the tuner and play. Is anything coming from your speaker? Even faintly?
If so – think about this: How could there be? The tuner has already been shown to fully mute, right? So the signal can't be coming from the insert return, right? So….it HAS to be coming from inside the amp somewhere. Congratulations, your amp has a faulty loop design or a manufacturing defect that permits some preamp signal to leak across to the power amp even when the loop is seriial. You don‟t have a fully-serial loop – even if the amp manual says it is serial.
A small amount of dry signal leakage across a serial loop is not necessarily a big issue. Due to signal cross-over in dual triode tubes and other amp circuitry, a small amount of leakage is extremely common. The sources of leakage are generally minimal, and generally result in no audible signal degradation."

Yeah, it has leakage in the effects loop.. Whether it is a defect or what I don't know but I bought the amp brand new from the Peavey rep so I guess I could just call him up and ask him it this is normal for these heads.. Thanks for all the help guys..

Sorry bro, but I second this opinion. Pre Gain above 6-7 just adds nasty hiss in my experiance. Really shitty hiss. To get a nice Gojira tone, around 5-6, for thick Immortal riffing, around 3-4. Everyone has got their preferance, but pregain all the way up, sounds horrible to me. Cannot even play that way. If something doesent sound powerful enough I let postgain handle it at this point.

I do agree with you some what, when I am recording this amp I back the gain off a lot for chunky rhythm sounds but when I'm just playing, I like it way up... I guess it's just the Metal Spinal Tap guy in me!!
