So I have been thinking with all the modded, and boutique stuff out there, (some of which I own) I think I need a stock, everyday amp. I used to own a 5150II which I really liked and always sounded great live (crunch channel killed) BUT I saw the 6534 and am considering looking into one. I actually liked the Guitar World demo ( and usually hate them) and the build quality has always been great on Peaveys in my opnion. And thoughts on the 6534 or has anyone played one? As most of you know I am a modded Marshall fan and really dig those styles of tone. This amp seems to be in that category?

Still have yet to see one in person but I really like all the clips ive heard

if you want a stock amplifier, but like the modded marshall tone, then why are you going for an amplifier voiced after the SLO 100?

the 6534+ is an el34 variant of the 5150 II series. other changes to the tone i am unaware of to my knowledge, but this was and is the selling point from peavey.

i would recommend a metroamp marshall if you want stock marshall tones. with PTP boards you will get way better build quality and design - the 6534 would not hold a candle to it. even the 5150's dont hold a candle to them.

FWIW i own a 5150 II right now that is modified. if i could have my choice again, i would have gone with a JCM800.

Funny you mentioned Metro, I have been looking into those as well. Do you know if I can buy a kit already built? I have zero experience in amp building so I would need to have it already done. While I realize the 6534 is not Marshall based, and more to an SLO ( since I have owned both an SLO and a 5150II) I just figured it would be cool to have an EL34 spin on the 5150/6505 sound. Obviously a Metro would have better parts/build quality then a plexi reissue and probably a much better platform for modding if I choose to go that route again.

yeah you can buy the kits already built, unless you know what you are doing or just want to enjoy the geek fun part of building your own amplifier, i would recommend letting george wire it up - he does amazing work. IMHO metroamp amplifiers do the marshall tone better than marshall, and are a much better platform for modifications and upgrades down the road. plus, no historical amplifiers are put on the chopping block, and you can pocket a pretty huge savings from buying a real marshall PTP

if you think the el34 tone would be nice in a 5150, 5150's can be modified to run El34's. i can run EL34's in mine and i bought it new back in 04-05. i just changed a few things to accept EL34 or E34L power tubes. im working on a dual bias circuit as we speak for 5150 II's.

if you want stock tones go with a metroamp. if you want an el34 variant of the 5150's get a 5150 and use the money saved to have it modified to run EL34's

I had one and loved it!! The EL34's gave it a great bark and it has a good clean channel. If you get a coupon from GC or MF for 10 or 15% off you can get them for $1000 or less. Great amp!!

Cool to hear gb, can you describe the crunch and lead channels? How did they compare to other well known high gainers? You are one of the very few guys I have heard of to actually play a 6534. Any further details would be great.
